Background: I am 39 years old. I get my period every 24 days on the dot (I guess that means that I have a 25-day cycle?). I count the first day of my period as day 1. On day 12, I get egg white cervical mucous. On day 13, I get more egg white cervical mucous. After that, I just get watery stuff. On day 25, my period arrives again.

My question: does the EWCM occur WHEN I am ovulating or just BEFORE I ovulate? If it occurs WHEN I am ovulating, then should we be trying on day 10 and 11 rather than on day 12??

For what it is worth, I got pregnant with DD when I was 34 years old, on the second try. We "did the deed" on day 12, - which leads me to believe that the EWCM is a sign that I am about to ovulate, not that I am already ovulating.

We have been trying two months in a row now and no result. Any other tips, much appreciated! Do I need to bother doing the whole basil thermometer thing given that I am sooooo regular?

EWCM occurs before you ovulate. It dries up immediately after ovulation.

Two months isn't too bad to be TTC. Your chances of conceiving are 20% in any given cycle and 80% over a year. Give it some time.

You can try using a BBT but I think you can easily pinpoint your ovulation based on CM alone.

How much before you ovulate? One hour? One day? And since my EWCM appears over a period of two days (day 12 and day 13) does that mean that I don't ovulate until day 14 (which, given that I have a 25 day cycle, would be kind of late...) or that I ovulate just a few hours after the ECWM appears on day 12? And how long does ovulation last?

I suppose we could just plan on having sex every day from days 11 to 15 but I think that even my DH would find that kind of exhausting.

I'm concerned about what you're referring to as EWCM, since you said "watery" after. The watery stuff is the EWCM usually. EWCM is clear, not white, and is very watery and sometimes stretchy. That's more fertile fluid than the white stuff.

Typically the watery EWCM occurs anywhere from a few days before ov to the day before. Usually the day of ovulation is the day after the last clear round liquidy mucus shows. But that varies.

You might want to check out Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It's a wonderful book.

The stuff that I'm describing looks and feels just like raw eggwhite - kind of clear and very stretchy. The stuff afterwards is really just like water in its flow - not stretchy at all. It appears on day 14.

I vote you O'd on cd 14 after the EWCM and the watery stuff is the beginnings of you drying up. 11 LP isn't bad it could be longer, could be shorter and that would be bad.
I'm no expert with my own body, because it hates me, but I have read a lot and I seem to notice that most ladies O the last day of EWCM or the 1st day when they notice they are drying up. I've also heard that you can have 3-4 days of EWCM before you O, makes sense because spermies can live up to 5 days or more in fertile fluid. So you body would want to have the troops lined up and ready for the egg. HTH

oh, and you have 24 hours to DTD before your egg starts to break down. thats why they say 3 days before O and the day of, the day after too if you really like BDing
