How long can a luteal phase be without pregnancy? I can't really compare to my previous charts, as dd stopped night nursing some months ago and since then my luteal phases have been 7 and 13 days.

I am 17 dpo and spotted a bit but no period yet. When I was cramping a bit and saw the blood, I was sure AF had started. This has never happened to me before, AF has always come within hours of seeing anything reddish.

My chart, I think, looked very good, triphasic and a possible implantation dip, but I tested negative 14 dpo, with a very sensitive test. According to the test, it was 99% on that day that the test was right.

I know this is one of those "must wait and see things" but I would still like to know how long the luteal phase can possibly be.

Mama to a little lady and always praying for more.

I would test again. It's unusual for a luteal phase to go beyond 16 days, unless that's normal for you, which it doesn't sound like it is.
The only other thing I can think of that would prolong your luteal phase is if something's going wonky with your body, like endometriosis.

TCOYF says 18 days is just about as good as a BFP. Once I've had an 18 day LP and got AF the next day, but otherwise 16 days is my limit and 13-14 days is the norm.

Thanks for the replies.

No, ovulation seemed quite clearly to be where FF placed it. However, I realize that nothing really tells us when exactly it took place, so in that sense it is possible. You know, that it takes place around when the temps go up, but no one can say for sure. I would think, though, that this is understood in the rules about luteal phase and such.

After I tested negative at 18 and 19 DPO a couple of months ago, I did some research and read somewhere that a luteal phase as long as 22 days is normal. I just did a google search, but couldn't find that info again. Also, luteal cysts can cause longer than normal luteal phases with elevated temps. They are usually self resolving, but I never did find any info about how long they could hold off AF.

Good luck and I really hope that you're just one of those women who get late BFP's!

all very interesting, I had an 11 day LP then next cycle had a 16 day LP. i thought the suspense was going to kill me.

Heather8: that sucks. I've always heard that 18 days was as good as BFP too.

Anumaria: any updates?

Got AF on day 18. I am just hoping that is not a new development that has come to stay, as that would make my cycles longer...
