Good luck, Hesperia!

SoCaliMommy, that's exciting! It would be awesome if a lot of us (possible) UCers had a DDC together!

I'm not officially TTC yet, just charting in preparation, but my littlest was born UC and I'm hoping for another if I'm lucky enough to conceive again.

I've never done it before but really seriously considered it with my son but ended up not doing it because my mom had paid for me to have a doula which was wonderful but his hospital birth wasnt that great.

I had a doula with DD, and we were in a hospital (they called it a birthing center but it wasn't freestanding) and I had a CNM deliver DD. It was a pretty great experience overall....but there are definitely some things I want to change.

I'm considering seeing if a friend of mine who has had 4 children, I believe 3 homebirths, and 1 UC, would want to come and "help" me if I needed. I don't know. I think DH would go for it if he felt we really were knowledgeable. I definitely don't want to try a breech birth at home, and that is one of my fears. That and hemorrhaging, however, I know that I have a lot to learn about both of those topics.

We'll see what ends up happening! It's also free...or basically free..as opposed to spending $2500 for a midwife...I just don't know!

I UC'd my last baby, it was great and I never want to birth any other way

AFM: I just found out that I'm pregnant. My progesterone seems low so I'm using my progesterone cream and hoping that this baby makes it. Planning another UP/Uc.

What does UP mean? Lol! Sorry if that's a silly question!!

How did you decide to do a UC? Was there anything you were scared of? How did you overcome your fears?

Thanks!

Unassisted pregnancy. I don't do prenatal care either. Well technically I did my own last time.
UC just clicked as soon as I read about it. I knew there was no other way to birth. I had questions/fears I just researched and asked other UC moms. Laura Shanely's unassisted childbirth site and forum are awesome, but unfortunately the forum is down right now, they do have a yahoo group though. Basically I overcame my fears with knowledge and faith. After giving birth at home unassisted it was only natural to me to stay home when I miscarried in December, it was so much like birth. I can't imagine going to the hospital for it ever again, it would take a gut feeling that something was wrong.

I had wanted to have a UC birth since before there was a term for it, but when I read Laura's work and started reading some posts on MDC, I finally had the courage and knowledge to go for it. It was one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life, second only to deciding to TTC ds in the first place.

I learned how to do FAR better prenatal care with this one and kept a good, accurate watch on my sugars with a glucometer instead of going through the usual scare/false alarm of testing positive on a pee stick, flunking the one hour GTT, and then finally passing the three hour one.

I also got to feel ds's little head through my vaginal wall when he was about 20 weeks along. It was the size of a golf ball and when I poked it, he headbutted me back! What an amazing experience!

There were many other bonuses to going UP, but those are the two that immediately come to mind.

Hi, can I join?

I'm preparing to start TTC#1 soon, hopefully we'll be ready by April or May. I was at the Trust Birth Conference in 08 and hearing Laura Shanely and Dr. Sarah Buckley and Rixa Freeze and other people talk about UC really struck a chord with me. I've been researching and informing myself ever since, and am in the process of getting DH on board. Not sure whether we'll go UP or not. Would really like to find a UC friendly midwife to consult with.

lol. me too!

had twins via c-section for first pregnancy, really want to UC with second one(ttc). Hubby not happy about that idea, but it's not up to him. I love him and we have a great relationship, but I am the mother so I am responsible for the birth.

I too plan to UC, but not openly. Family/friends would 'freak'!!

Good luck to you

ttc #3 (second pregnancy). Love the idea of UC. hubby is not on board, and usually I give in to him on everything....this time he will simply have to adjust to me.

Hi ladies,

I haven't been here in over a year, I'd guess, but my heart is still here.
DH and I have moved to a second foreign country now, and are headed back to the US in about 2 months... I was hoping to have our UC here, but it looks like that won't happen--we're not even taking home a little 'souvenir' like my friends took from Costa Rica (their conceived baby!)

We had planned to TTC last summer, when I had lost all of the extra weight I'd carried for YEARS (seriously, I think I completely skipped the clothing sizes 6 and 8 when I was in my early teens!), but my cycles were all crazy because of emergency family trips back to the US and all of the stress. Then I gained back about 25 lbs. But I'm working hard now, DH says "We're on the War Path!" to lose the weight. It's our goal (he's losing too) to be back down to ideal weights by October at the latest. But to be a LOT closer before we go to the US in September. If I lose 2 lbs. a week until we return, I'll only be 6 lbs. up from my lowest 'ever' weight. That's exciting! (And just in time for DH's birthday... hmmm... maybe we can TTC then, huh?!)

All that to say, I'm here, I hope that you're able to have baby success soon, and look forward to being back 'in touch' with this group in the months to come!

Hey, mama. I have technically "graduated" from this thread (I was the one who started it two years ago!), but I just wanted to wish you well on your journey! 3 years is a long time, and that must be difficult for you and your family. What sort of "assistance" do you plan on trying first?

Peaceful mama to three blissfully-birthed and incredible small people: dd10, dd7 and ds5. Always awed and so thankful to be a midwife.
