Well, I did it. My 18-month-old dd (conceived via ICSI) has been weaned now for a week. It took about 3 months, and now it is official. And I am just heartbroken. I feel like it was a complete mistake. I've been crying off and on all day. The reality that I will never nurse her again has come crashing down on me and I just can't believe it.
What started the weaning process was getting the letter in the mail from the Reproductive folks at the hospital that said my "2 free years of embryo storage" are up and now we have to start shelling out some big bucks every month. And because our original plan was to start the FET process in late spring/early summer, I thought it made sense to go ahead and slowly wean her so I could get my cycles somewhat regulated.
But the sadness I feel is unlike any sadness I have ever felt.

Been there, felt exactly like that. It got better, but you are totally right and justified to grieve all you need to, as long as you need to.

mama to two DD's, 7 and 3 (3 rounds of IVF and more FET's than I can remember)

I'm there right now. DD is older (3.5) and I am cutting out her one last nursing session tonight (or tomorrow.... or the next day...). We did 2 unsuccessful IVF cycles with her nursing - I gave it my best shot. At her age, there's no real guilt, just missing something that has been important to both of us.

I'm sorry, kashimama. It's just one more way that IF affects our lives unfairly.

My DS weaned himself at 22 1/2 months. One one hand I was happy we coudl finally start trying but the other part of me was sad. I am sure some of it was hormones. I know though that my cycles woudl never have resembled normal with him nursing though. Although I went into it thinking that I woudl have no issue with getting pregnant with number 2, that is what my doctor had said. It will get better and hopefully you will get a baby from the FET and soon have a new nursling.

Carly, mama to DS C (5th grade), DD Miss M (07/09, fostered 1/10, adopted 08/10), and Little Miss C (11/10, fostered 01/11, adopted 11/12). Foster Son, Mr. A, age 11 placed 10/13.
My angel babies , ~01/08~ (twins), ~09/08~, and ~01/09~.
