A monthly thread to talk about all of our various journeys through the difficult, trying, and often heartbreaking world of infertility. This thread is a place to chat, vent, get support, cheer each other on, and hopefully occasionally laugh!

Trying to Conceive

amberc727: TTC #2 since Oct '08. Starting Femara this cycle.

AmyKT: 34, TTC #2 since June '09. Briefly pregnant in August/Sept, but miscarried. Slightly elevated FSH and a short luteal phase. DH sometimes has subfertile sperm. Working on IUI #4.

anne1140: 26, TTC #1 since Nov. '07. Done: blood work for both, semen analysis 4X, HSG, 2 ultrasounds (1 2D, 1 3D), and varicocele repair. Me: septate uterus, Him: poor sperm morphology and motility, possibly caused by varicocele (repaired now!). Next step: Semen analysis in January to see if the surgery worked, and trying in the meantime.

AutumnLaughing: 32, TTC #1 since June of 2008, PCOS + possible endo, clear HSG, using progesterone cream, DH ambivilent due to unemployment.

brichole1214: 25, DH 30, TTC for the past 28 months with no success. Already done 4 rounds of clomid treatments; has 6 yo child from previous relationship. Recently started seeing a RE.

DaisyMae08: Unexplained IF with 7 failed IUIs, 1st IVF resulted in a chemical pg, 2nd IVF negative, and looking toward IVF #3.

Eastbayk: natural

indianagrl: 35, DH also 35. TTC #1 since 10/08 with hypothyroidism, possible other hormone imbalance.

Kel32brown: Kelli. TTC #4 for 36 months, m/c 10/08, 1st Clomid/IUI (April 2009) led to missed miscarriage (July 2009). Now waiting out a cyst from a no-medication cycle.

Kimberly23: 23, TTC #1 with PCOS, about to start first cycle of Clomid and Provera.

kristenok18: Starting up ART again after over a year hiatus (husband is in military).

lalalola: TTC #1 for 2 years. DH has sperm antibody problems. IVF with ICSI is our only option.

laura-belle: TTC #1 since 5/2007. I'm 28, DH is 42. 7 failed IUI's, still deciding what to do next.

lotusblossom9: 28, TTC #2, trying Femara this cycle after Clomid didn't work.

DH has low testosterone and *doesn't* ejaculate about 85% of the time, no rhyme or reason to when he does or doesn't ejaculate.

nyteacher: 27, DH 31-TTC #1,1 1/2 years. No response to 3 rounds of clomid. Currently doing a round of injectables; gonal-F and Lupron, 1st IUI 12/5/09.

Tear78: TTC #1 since 5/2008, possible luteal phase defect, first appt with RE in November.

wallabisfarm: Sara, 29, actively TTCed for 2 years with endo, now, after a 4 year break (without prevention) we are trying again on a gluten free diet to heal from my gluten intolerance or celiac disease.

Hi, i'm new to this so i thought i would start out by telling a little about myself. I'm 25 years old and me and DH (30) have been TTC for the past 28 months with no sucess. We've already done 4 rounds of clomid treatments (#1: 50mg #2 & #3 100mg, and #4 150mg) with my regular OB/GYN and didn't get anywhere with that. I was refered to a reproductive specialist in november (first appointment was nov. 24th) and he told me that it's PCOS that is causing our problems. DH had a SA done a year ago almost and everything came back fine with that. I've already got 1 child from a previous marriage who will be 6 the 14th of this month and it's just really hard for me to deal with the fact that i've already had one child and i'm having so much trouble getting pregnant for a second time. They did an ultrasound at my first appointment with the RS and started me on Tamoxifen that day because it was CD3 for me (so i took that cd3-7). I go back this friday(dec4th) for another ultrasound and blood work to see if the tamoxifen worked this month. We have our fingers cross. I'm just looking for a place to go where other women understand what I'm going through so I hope that i'm able to connect with a couple of people on here. Thank you for listening to my rambling if anyone has any advice please let me know...and i will keep an update on how things are going for me.

Hi everyone!

I'm Kristen, 37, and dh is 39. We have been dealing with secondary IF since 2004 (I have pcos and dh has multiple MF issues). We had taken a long break from ART, and decided to resume treatment again last month. We did femara with an IUI, but it didn't work. Today is cd1. I'm waiting to hear back from my doctor about our options for this cycle.

Hi everyone,
We're taking a month or 2 off from TTC. A BFN on Thanksgiving was really dissapointing and I'd like to enjoy the holiday without worrying about TTC.

RE wants me to move on to injectables after our 2 failed IUIs. I have never tried injectables before...what should I expect?

With this month or 2 I'm going to be cleaning up my diet, doing more excercise, and mentally preparing myself for a cycle with injectables. Oh, and positive thinking of a BFP!

Good luck to everyone this month.

Mama to DS 7/23/08.

Well, I went to the doctor this morning and had blood work and an ultrasound done and they said my uterus looked good but i'm still not showing signs of ovulation on the Tamoxifen. He called me in 5 mg of Femara to take for 5 days starting tonight (which is like cd13 so i'm kinda confused) and then I go and have more blood work and another ultrasound done on the 15th of this month. It would be nice if this is the last round of drugs for me to take since this is the third different kind of fertility pills they've put me on in the past year! The nurse did say that if everything looks like a go on the 15th that they would give me an injectable that i will give myself in the stomach on the next visit to try to help the ovulation process on a little. My fingers are crossed! Lots of baby dust out there to everyone!

Thank you Laura-Belle! Welcome to the new folks!

Stopping by for my monthly check-in - FF thinks I O'd, but I think it's just some faulty temps from Thanksgiving week. I'm at CD 36, and while I *have* O'd as late as CD 85, I'm feeling like this cycle is out of whack. Of course, that's what I was saying just before I O'd last cycle! (Now, if I could just get DH to BD instead of going to the movies.. he says "after the movie?", but I know I'll fall asleep )

My diet *has* been kind of awful - first there was the Halloween candy, then the thanksgiving pie... now we're into Christmas cookie season. I'm trying to convince DH that we should buy an elliptical trainer for both of us for Christmas - I know that aerobic exercise won't make up for the sugar, but I eat too much sugar because I'm stressed, and I think the exercise would help with that.

I think I'm trying to sublimate my desire for a baby into a desire for a new/cooler phone - I mean, babies are more expensive than a 30$/mo data plan, right? (I can NOT justify a data plan right now - and I'm in phone withdrawal because DH's phone died + he's borrowing mine until the replacement shows up. I mostly just call him on it, anyway!)

I'm hoping to read some good news in here this month!

DH(37) + I(36) have been working on collaborative project #1 for 6 years, fighting more battles than I ever imagined. 2/2014 - IVF cycle =  due in late November!

Hi everyone!

Just stopping in to say hey. Not much going on here. We're still trying naturally and trying to stay positive with the attitude of "if it happens, it happens" which is difficult, of course. I still don't have reliable insurance to be able to go to the RE. I'm still thinking about accupuncture and Chinese herbs, but DH doesn't feel comfortable overextending ourselves financially right now. There are just too many unknowns in our immediate financial future. I guess we're in a holding pattern?

I'm trying to keep positive for the upcoming holiday and not think too much that this should be the first holiday with our baby.

Autumnlaughing: you totally should get a new phone! I just got a Motorold Droid and now wonder how I lived without mobile web for so long! Haha. But yeah, if you don't use the data plan, it is a bit spendy.

I finally got AF!! I know that normally that is a bad thing, but this last cycle was 113 days w/no ovulation. So I am happy to be back at day 1 and finally able to start my cycle of testing at the RE. So far insurance has been picking up the tab because my diagnosis code is irregular periods, not infertility. Hopefully that continues! Not looking forward to the HSG, but glad we are finally moving forward...

brichole1214: Welcome! I am adding you to the list up top . I hope this cycle goes well (although I've never heard of starting the Femara this late either).

kristenok18:

nyteacher: I've added you to the list up top. Welcome and we hope your stay here is short!

lotusblossom9: I did a couple of cycles of injectables. Really, giving myself the shots wasn't too bad (although I whined horrendously about it the whole time). I found that the medication side effects were somewhat worse than Clomid or Femara, but not nearly as bad as I had feared. Also, my RE mandated many more ultrasounds with injectables. Good luck!

Kimberly23:

Autumnlaughing: On the food and exercise thing, I am so there. Holidays are just bad that way. I had a gym membership--until it went out of business at the end of October. *shrugs*

oregonduck: I don't have a lot of advice but...yeah...

indianagrl: Yay for finally moving forward!

AFM: We've been taking a break from ART since about then end of July--both for perspective and for financial reasons. We've (ok I've) decided to go ahead and have the hysterscopy to make sure my heart shaped uterus isn't hiding some sort of septum. I have an appt Friday the 11th to recap and to discuss that with the doc. Right now we're thinking about doing IVF after that.

Mom to William 5/2013! Finally have a kid after our second IVF and more than 5 years of TTC.

oregonduck - I *SO* want a droid!!! But 2/3 of our income went with DH's job, and with me trying to convince him that a baby wouldn't be too bad... well.. let's just say that when he gets another job, I am going to RUN out and get a new phone!!! (uhm, and hopefully my provider will have droids by then, too..)

indianagrl - I did that once. It sucked. for CD1!

and I have some good news!!! (not THAT good news, though..) DH agreed to officially be trying again!!! He even brought it up himself. This happened about 4 days after I ovulated this cycle, but that's OK, we still have a chance this time..

And you probably didn't catch that second piece of good news - I DID ovulate again!! FF says CD 33 - and while I can't be sure because of my bad temp-taking practices, that seems pretty close. I was waiting and waiting to start the progesterone, but I gave in + given my current temps, I'm pretty sure it's correct.

I did jump into the full dose twice a day of the progesterone and it made me CRAZY. But, I think I'm about back to normal (er, for my lueteal phase - my endogenous progesterone makes me a little crazy..) now.

DH(37) + I(36) have been working on collaborative project #1 for 6 years, fighting more battles than I ever imagined. 2/2014 - IVF cycle =  due in late November!

It's early friday morning and I'm about to go crazy waiting on Tuesday to get here!!!!! It's really hard to stay up beat though when every month for the past year that I've been taking fertility medication I have had no ovulation which means BFNs every month. And having these ultrasounds 2 or 3 times a month, confirming that i'm not ovulating is even more depressing. I just pray that this month is much better than that last 11 months!

indianagrl - the HSG is really not bad at all!
brichole1214

I just started the first round of injectibles (Follistim) last night. I thought I could do it myself but the anxiety took over. I had to have dh do it for me... I would like to get over it and do it myself! Guess I'll try again tonight.
I think dh is upset about all of this. He knew we were doing it and I've told him about it all along - but the price was a shock for him. After I already ordered the meds and was about to go pick them up he got doubts on it and started wanting "statistics". I told him there are no guarantees so what good are statistics?
I guess it'll be a busy month with ultrasounds and bloodwork. Keeping my fingers crossed it works... and not expecting it to.

Hi -

maybe I can join? I`ll probably be a pretty quiet member, but I`d like to drop in now and again!

I am Sara, infertile for something above six years now, with endo being my only identified problem (I had a lap some years back, and presently have two cysts, but my present gyn doesn`t think that ought to have been enough to keep us from conceiving). I have thyroid issues in my family, and suspect that is contributing. Dh and I have one wonderful dd, whose adoption we are in the process of finalizing, and are both keeping our foster/adopt lisence open and going back to TTC, hoping to add to our family one or both ways. I have recently gone gluten-free (I suspect celiac disease, as many members of my family have gluten troubles, but don`t have access to any testing at the moment) and the resulting burst of health has led dh and I back to the gyn, the charting and the TTCing.

So, in short -

wallabisfarm - Sara, 29, actively TTCed for 2 years with endo, now, after a 4 year break (without prevention) we are trying again on a gluten free diet to heal from my gluten intolerance or celiac disease.

Nice to meet everyone, baby dust to all and to all a goodnight!

Sara, mama to a 3 yo dd since 2008 :

So tomorrow is my next appointment with the RE at 0730 and i'm really nervous! I have heard you've not ovulated so many times that it doesn't make me very encouraged when it's time to go back again. I have to have my blood work drawn and another ultrasound done! I'm praying for follic's this time so I can get an injectable! I'm ready to graduate after going 6 yrs without having a second child. (My daughter turned 6 today!!! ) Thanks again for all of the support on here and i'm going to post tomorrow afternoon once the nurse calls us back with my lab work results!

DH and I went to the RE yesterday for my b/w and ultrasound...and nothing still. I am on CD25 and I still haven't ovulated yet!!!! The nurse gave me a 800 number to call yesterday to make sure i'm covered on injectables and low and behold I am!!! The lady at the 800-pharmacy and the nurse were just as excited at the news as I was! The doctorhas decided that injectables are the next way to go since i have not responded at all to any of the oral medication. My new medication has been ordered and is being shipped to my house and I go in tomorrow for injectable training with the nurse. I have 3 different medications that i'm going to have to inject with this round of medication and I find out tomorrow the names and dosages. I'm a little nervous about the whole giving myself a shot (even though i give my mom b12 injections all of the time lol) I hope this does the trick because my emotions are just going crazy right now! I started crying yesterday during the ultrasound because as soon as the nurse focused on my ovaries I saw that there had been no change at all to them...and then she confirmed what I already knew...it's really disheartening..but i'm trying to stay positive with starting the injectables on the 21st. Then i'll go back for b/w and another ultrasound on the 28th. This has been a really long month and my body is probably going to kick my tail with all of the medications that i've been pushing through myself this past month but I have a really good feeling about the prospect of getting pregnant in january!!! A bunch of baby vibes to everyone and I'm praying we are all able to graduate by january!!!

Can you please add me?

We're going to be looking into that issue ourselves, just getting DH comfortable with the idea

I know that the MENOPUR is the one that i have to take the most of (because they sent like 6 boxes lol) but what is the OVIDREL and GANIRELIX for? This is my first time with injectables so i'm nervous as mess! I really hope this all goes well!

So i start my injectables in 17 hours and counting lol. I did great with my "injectables class" with the RN thursday and I figured out what the other 2 medications were for. I really hope that this works....my emotions are running wild and i'm so drained it's not even funny! DH is getting anxious too because he has no children of his own, yet he hates to see me go through month after month on BFNs too. Lot's of Love out there to all of you women! It's great to have a support group who'll at least listen to you rant and rave about how you feel! Lots of baby vibes to everyone!!!!

Thank you VERY VERY much! I got off work at 6am and thought "hey i'll just try to sleep until at least 3 since i've been missing out on sleep latley and I have nothing else to do until i have to give myself my first shot at 7pm"...but go figure today would be one of those days my body's like "Hey it's 11am you need to wake up NOW!!!" The wait is what's killing me. It's hard to not go into my kitchen, mix together my solutions and inject it now lol. I think i'm going to catch up on some reading i've been meaning to do until it's time! DH has to work tonight at this second job so he told me that he's calling me while i give myself my shot. LOL he's more anxious about this than I am I think lol. I am praying for this to work!

I get to ttc this month!!!!!!!!!! I will be taking 50mg of Clomid on cd5-9 and I am super excited (and kinda nervous!). My dr wanted me to start with 100mg but since I know of a lady here in town who had a similar story to me (and the same dr.) ended up pregnant with triplets on her second cycle of 100mg clomid so I was super worried about that happening (although I know the odds are like 10%) so I told him I was more comfortable starting at 50mg. I am kinda hoping the clomid is going to help me O sooner than I normally do and maybe I can get myself a nice new years conception! After over two and a half years of just twiddling my thumbs and waiting for it to just happen, I finally get to be a bit proactive! I am going to be using preseed again too since when I got pregnant before (after 14 months of ttc) we had used preseed and I think it helped a lot, at least made bd'ing more enjoyable. I am just soooo freaking excited.

If you get any information, let me know. There's a small amount of info out there. Plus, DH doesn't have the normal causes for anejaculation...another reason we're seeking a second opinion.

FWIW, DH didn't take it seriously or want to see a doctor until we started TTC, then it sank in that it wasn't normal and was going to be pretty hard not knowing if/when he ejaculates. His family doctor that he had since he was a baby told him it was normal for some men and wouldn't be a problem. So I think that stuck with him. Then, our PCP (we share one) told us to try for 6 months, then come back to her. I didn't want to wait 6 months because it's just not normal, even if we weren't TTC!! Plus, she completely dismissed our questions about why it might be happening, if occasional ED had anything to do with it, etc. I finally convinced him that a trip to a Urologist should be in order. I wish we had done it sooner and I wish I had searched for one that specializes in male infertility first. But, hindsight is 20/20.

On another note: When the testosterone levels came back low and I found out this correlates w/ ED, something clicked there. Now I just need this urologist to actually call me back to see if there is anything we can do to help his testosterone levels. I don't want him to try a cream for fear of it rubbing off on me, not knowing the exact dosage, etc.

Sorry to make this post even longer, but....
Has anyone read The Infertility Cure: The Ancient Chinese Wellness Program for Getting Pregnant and Having Healthy Babies by Randine Lewis? Someone suggested it in another forum. Wondering if I should give it a read?

And, finally, not to be a pain, but....to the threadkeeper--I noticed I haven't been added yet?

Not TTC, but not-not TTC...if that makes any sense!

I think it's a great resource, and it is definitely worth reading. It's been talked about quite a bit in this forum (in the past). You might be able to find some of the old threads if your search back a ways.
