A monthly thread to talk about all of our various journeys through the difficult, trying, and often heartbreaking world of infertility. This thread is a place to chat, vent, get support, cheer each other on, and hopefully occasionally laugh!

Trying to Conceive #1

fierrbug Tiara (33), DH (34) – TTC #1 since 2001, 3 mc’s. Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency (AGHD) which relates to other hormone/insulin/egg quality issues + some clotting properties. In limbo awaiting a miracle to get GH injections in conjunction with a future IUI.

stretch358~TTC since Aug. 08 with hashimoto's thyroiditis. Other than that the RE says Unexplained Infertility.

Tear78~TTC #1 since 5/2008. Two m/c in 2008/9, laparoscopy/hysteroscopy to remove endometroid cyst in 2010. Trying IUIs with breaks in between when necessary.

InGodsHands- Me:30 Mild Endo, Possible PCOS; DH: 32 Perfect except for low morphology. TTC #1 since March 08. Currently doing 2nd IUI with femera/follistim/trigger. Hoping for a miracle!

Milletpuff~34, TTC #1 since April '09 with two early losses. Me: no bad results in the first rounds of testing, hoping to get some testing for info on losses. DP: shooting blanks cos she's a female. Trying with known donor in Europe, next cycle in August

simplymere~ pregnant once 2 years ago, lost pregnancy. Trying Clomid for the first time now, due to not feeling sure about having medical help. Did have moderate endometriosis removed Febuary 2009. Overall a frustrating journey.

Trying To Conceive #2

no5no5 - ttc #2 since Oct. 07. Trying Clomid and if that doesn't work, going straight to IVF!

Can I please be added to the TTC #1 list?

Name: First Shot Photo
Age: 20
TTC #: 1
CD: 31
DPO (if applicable): I didn't ovulate this cycle =(
Testing: Just got progesterone levels test back. I was on 100mg of Clomid this time and my levels were 0.8!! I had a level of 13 on 50mg, so I am going back to that dose.
Trying Since: Feb 2009
Plan for this Cycle: Go back down to the 50mg of Clomid, and hope that my levels as are good as they were last time at 50mg.
Link to Chart (if applicable): Not charting yet again. I will start back up ASAP though. I need to buy a new thermometer.
Thoughts: I'm really depressed about the effects of the 100mg of Clomid. Back down to 50 I guess..

Hi ladies. Can I join?

Name: no5no5
Age: 31
TTC #: 2
CD: 1
DPO (if applicable):
Testing: Whenever I feel like wasting more money.
Trying Since: October '07
Plan for this Cycle: I'm waiting for the doctor to call me back & let me know. We'll probably go for Clomid & progesterone this time around.
Link to Chart (if applicable):
Thoughts: I've just finished up my first cycle on Clomid. The hope (not my hope, particularly, but my doctor's) was that the Clomid would lengthen my luteal phase. No such luck. I actually made it to 10 days, which is the top end of normal of for me. CD 21's progesterone level was 2. The nurse says that probably means that I ovulated, but clearly it's not where it should be. Two more Clomid cycles to go, then on to IVF!

Weekend Wrap-Up
Name:MoOnFiReGlOw
Age: 28
TTC #: 4
CD: 11
DPO (if applicable): not quite yet! Hopefully I do ovulate this month!!
Testing: Not anytime soon
Trying Since: April 09
Plan for this Cycle: Take my vitamins and exercise and attempt to stick with it!
Link to Chart (if applicable): Nothing much to see
Thoughts: Well a LOT has been going on! I'm on cd11, but still bleeding. One program I'm using says I'm still at the beginning of a cycle, the other says I had a really super short cycle and I'm on cd 2 b/c its impossible to bleed for longer than 7 days so who knows? I'm just really hoping this bleeding stops soon b/c I really don't want to have to go to the doctor

On a positive note my dh's back is FINALLY feeling better and he is off the meds that the docs thought were preventing him from making sperm so now if my body could get in gear maybe we could make something happen!

Age: 30
TTC #: 2 (but primary IF, as dd came us through adoption)
CD: 3
DPO (if applicable): nope
Testing: I always say no, but secretly hope to make it enough days to make testing worthwhile!
Trying Since: 2002, on and off, but trying while gluten free for just under a year
Plan for this Cycle: first and foremost, keep the gluten away!! also, remember my vitamins and probiotics
Link to Chart (if applicable):
Thoughts: still trying to go long enough without gluten for my body to stand a chance at normalizing, and until that happens we are not going any further with the dr. Am considering seeing an autoimmune disease specialist (if we can find one - first step - what would that sort of dr be called?) to see if we can work out what is going on in my body and be able to formulate a better plan.

Moonfireglow - that is awesome news about your dh and the meds!!

Thanks hun! They say it takes around 3 months for the 'bad' sperm to be replaced by good ones, so I'm a bit sad it will take that long but what is a few more months compared to the 1+ year we have been trying??

Honestly hun, if you just had a ton of endo removed, I'd probably wait a month before taking the clomid. That's just me though! If you are questioning it at all, wait.

AFM - I'm so excited ladies! My dh has gotten his libido back That really makes me think it was these meds that were causing all the issues. I'm crossing my fingers that these swimmers rejuvenate quickly!!

Good luck to both of you! Things sound promising.

I'm starting Lupron on Thursday. A bit nervous about all the needles. Good thing Mike isn't scared of using a needle, since I am.

Well, clomid is very cheap, especially if you're only going to try it for a few cycles (which is really all you should do). I have heard that it can make endo worse. But right after the surgery that effect might be less. I don't know. I guess you make the decision you are least likely to regret.

Can you please change my info up above? DH and I are both 36 now and since I have lost weight my hormones don't seem to be unbalanced anymore. Now I'm considered "unexplained infertility". Thanks!

I'm pretty sure I ovulated yesterday so now the TWW starts! Hope springs eternal How is it that you can have this little seed of hope, when every month for two years now the thing you have been hoping and praying for doesn't happen? How exciting is this though....I was probably in my fertile stage this past week for my fourth wedding anniversary!! It would be cool if that was the BD'ing that finally did it

Hope everyone has a great week!

I can't help but be a bit excited since this is our first cycle with dh off the meds...but I know I shouldn't get my hopes up too much since it takes a while for the meds to get out of his system.

Ok. I had my post-surgery followup yesterday.
My RE suggested that I come in the next cycle on day 21 for a progesterone to see how well I'm ovulating, and if it's good, to try on our own for a few months. Or, if it's not good, to go right on to clomid.
So, dh is just SO upset that he's got to have lots of sex.
Here's to "practice makes perfect!"

why...why I ask you?

AF (or some sort of bleeding) started today on what ought to have been cd14. with cramps. WTF? most unfair.

this has happened a few times before over the past several years, so I am wondering what is going on. I thought annovulatory bleeding was what happened when you didn`t ovulate and the uterine lining gave up and decided to fade away on its own, but does it start as soon as this? Plus, I had all my normal ovulating signs (but I am not temping at the moment, so can`t confirm ov - dumb of me!) which makes annovulatory bleeding seem an unlikely candidate.

My recent history, in hopes someone has some thoughts as to what is going on - I am thinking maybe there is a clue to my hormonal problems in the irregularity:

last cycle, 24 days, ovulated around cd 11 (or so I judge from cm and my normal post-ov symptoms - I am not temping at the moment)

last period was normal to lightish, with enough cramping that I took one prescription pain killer (in contrast to having taken 4 over the course of the preceeding period)

I had been putting cd 10 or 11 as probably ovulation date this cycle (again based on cm and the after-effects)

woke up with brownish spotting this morning, has now progressed to red flow and some mild cramping

my issues overall seem to consist of gluten intolerance or celiac disease, moderately active endometriosis, somewhat short cycles (24-26 days) and low end of normal progesterone levels (several years ago).

is this unnusual bleeding just run of the mill annovulatory bleeding or does it sound like a clue to ... something? anything? I`ll happily take any and all thoughts!

wallabi - I have no clue either, but temping is a good start to finding out what the heck is going on! I know several women have helped with a diagnosis b/c of what the temps were saying. That way you will at least know if you are ovulating or not.

Have you tried an elimination diet to see if gluten is your issue? Had any blood tests done?

ARGH. I am trying to figure out when to start the progesterone but this cycle, of course, my temps are not cooperating. I was hoping for a nice fat 98 this morning, but all I got was 97.72. Okay, so I'm only on CD 15, but last cycle I thought I O'd on CD 12, and now I am rethinking that. My temp shift last cycle was ambiguous, I thought because I started temping late (CD 11), but now I'm thinking maybe last cycle I O'd on CD 15 (and that is what FF thinks). If that is the case, then my LP last cycle was only 7 days, not the 10 I thought it was. And that makes it all the more crucial to start taking the progesterone as soon after O as possible.

I wonder if I should call my RE and ask for some sort of test to see if I've O'd yet. I am so confused. And annoyed.

OK that is some weird bleeding. I have some short cycles like 24 or 25 days but never bleeding at cd14. I'm curious to know if it continues like a period.

My previous RE had you start progesterone the same day you did your trigger shot. So you're probably safe to go ahead and start it. It definitely made my LP longer. Actually too long - it was frustrating.

I just bought $2000 of Puregon - thank god for drug coverage! I can't believe such a small amount of a drug can cost so much! I go on Saturday for an u/s. I'm sure they will tell me then when to start using it. I think after O I'll be using Crinone and Prometrium - fun.

Name: Jenger
Age: 35
TTC #:2
CD: 21
DPO (if applicable):3 (or 4)
Testing: I'm not anxious just yet- probably not 'til 12dpo
Trying Since: August 2009
Plan for this Cycle: Try and get over my bad attitude, avoid my pregnant SIL, who is pregnant for the second time since I have been trying (she was pregnant when we started, I thought it would be fun to be pregnant at the same time, a least for a few months... now she's onto her second...
Link to Chart (if applicable): Link, not that there is much there, since I am now only using the CBEFM and some OPKs that I don't record.
Thoughts: Ugg. I can't stand this. DH just got upset 'cause I made a jealous comment about another couple. He said, 'what if it takes another year?'. Ugg

Also, not that I am especially anxious, but I would love to join - I posted on last thread (Maybe too trepidatiously, as if using the word 'infertility' makes it so...

Anyway, my blurb could be:
Jenger - TTC#2 since August 2009, diagnosed with mild hypothyroidism in August 2010

Wallabi - So sorry

lesliesara - I'm not on the pricey concoction you have, so take what I say with a large grain of salt... I love prometrium, my RE has me on it (the oral capsules taken vaginally) 200mg a day and it makes me feel good... it's probably a result of my thyroid deficiency, but still...

Mama to Little Beedust.gif born April 2007 -

Expecting a new little one in Mid-October, after 3 1/2 years TTC

thanks for the replies!! I know no real-life infertile folks, so no one who gets how upsetting things can be. I am on cd2 now, I guess, but it has been odd - on the up side, the cramps faded away (praises be! they have been killer lately), but (tmi!) the bleeding has been heavy and more like, well, bleeding than menstrual flow.

As to charting - I feel such an idiot, because I had been charting but got lazy toward the end of summer, and since my cycles are so regular and have followed the same pattern for the 9 years or so over which I have, off and on, charted , and my temp-shift confirmed O always has lined up with CM, CP and after-O breast tenderness, I haven`t gotten back into it yet. . So, of course, when the info could be useful and tell me something, I wasn`t paying attention. Serves me right.

The gluten is an on-going challenge: I went off it a year ago, and whenever I eat it now it is very clearly a problem but I don`t know exactly how it affects my fertility. I am hoping that staying clear of the gluten for at least 6 months will get my body back on track, but little bits have been sneaking in. Allergy testing showed an Ige allergy to wheat, but separate from that elimination diet and challenging foods, as well as personal and family medical history points to gluten, and probably celiac. I would actually like to get tested for celiac disease, but it is very rare here (I live in Japan) and my gyn, the only dr I see regularly, has never even heard of it. If things don`t even out for me some time soon dh and I are discussing finding a dr that specializes in autoimmune disease to try and get a better understanding of what goes on within me.

wow - that was long! and very self-involved

lesliesara - thank goodness for insurance coverage, indeed! I hope the new combo treats you nicely and does the trick for you!!

Jenger - welcome! "infertility" is a hard word, but it brings with it lovely support

no5 - would that things could be simple, eh?

moonfireglow - the waiting with knowing the meds are on their way out must be maddedning - fingers and toes crossed for you in hopes that the wait will be short and sweet!

Yikes. Have you seen a doctor? I think I would go in, if that happened to me. But then I'm a bit of a hypochondriac. You wouldn't think you'd have much flow that early on in your cycle--no time for the uterine lining to build up, you know?--and I've always had much less flow when I get my period really early (though by really early I mean CD 21).

Why on earth was I expecting simplicity at this point? Silly me. Oh well, I did get my 98 this AM, so now I'm just waiting to see how crazy the progesterone makes me.

Welcome, jenger. Have you just started synthroid? I will that that will solve your problem.
