OK, my dear IVFers, another 180 degree turn for me!

I was out this afternoon and got a message from my RE to call him back on his cell. Turns out my estrogen went back down quite nicely.

So, as of tonight, I am STIMMING!

Started w/ 300 IU Follisitm and 75 menopur with 10 IU Lupron.

However, he may have me take Ganirelix, too, because the Lupron was stimulating me rather than suppressing.

I go back in on Tuesday for bloodwork and ultrasound, then we'll discuss the Ganirelix.

I will also take Human Growth Hormone, but not until the last few days of stimulation.

I'm just going with the flow. If this works, great. If it doesn't, on to donor eggs.

BTW, I met my stunningly beautiful 16-day old niece today, a product of IVF with donor eggs. What a little miracle she is!

She slept in my arms for almost an hour!

I'll do personals tomorrow.

Babydust, all.

It looks like you are doing everything you should be doing song. I'm trying to do the same thing and relax but I'm a worrier,  I've read stress can be a factor in the succes of IVF.

Now i'm really glad to be in this thread  I started spotting/bleeding on the BCP, so annoying but  I didn't freak out how long did it lasted for you rcr?, I'm so ready to not have a period for 9 months, also I seemed to have gotten a yeast infection a couple days ago I treated it so hopefully it's gone it;s hard to tell with the spotting/bleeding , I feel like I'm falling apart, I can't wait to be finished with bcp.

Keria - How much longer are you on BCP? I got yeast infections (the only I ever got in my life) when on BCP for family planning years ago. That must be frustrating! Hope your stims start soon!

song - Yeah for starting stims! joy.gif Glad your levels are back down.  Hope you soaked in all those baby vibes while you were holding your beautiful new niece.

keria - I sure hope the spotting stops and that the yeast infection clears up soon.

Song - yay!!! I am just a day behind you!

Kierra- my spotting was quite frequent. I thought I was starting my period for about a week before I stopped bcp. I had to wear a pad almost the whole time I was on bcp's. My re said it was normal (so did Google ).

Afm - I gave myself two shots tonight. I was so nervious when I was about to stick it in. Dh said to stick it in while not looking, because he couldn't look. But that felt weird to not see it. I did it, while watching! Boy, that follistim pen is confusing. The menipur was easier, even though I had to mix it.

What is this about retrieval hurting? I was not expecting that.

rcr - I used follistim so if you ever have any questions just yell. It will get easier.  I found that that pen is better than the Gonal F pen, I thought. There is also a good injection tutorial on Freedom Pharmacy's website in case you ever need extra helped with all injections.

rcr - Yay for injecting yourself twice! It will get easier and easier. Did you get the Follistim pen sorted out? Also, each Follistim cartridge has some extra--the 600 IU cartridge has more than 600 IU. I saved my cartridges and had my nurse combine them into one to get some extra doses. That stuff is expensive, so it's worth using every drop!

About egg retrieval: I was under general anesthesia and it was painless. Afterwards, I was a little crampy, but nothing worse than a heavy period. However, I had a lot of gas pains/bloating, which is typical. I took Gas-Ex and was pain-free! I didn't need anything more than Ibuprofen after the procedure.

I am sure it will get easier. I think the first shot was a big hurdle for me. From now on it can't be that bad. I did get the pen sorted out. I also had some extra and was wondering what to do with it, so I stuck it back in the fridge. It was only a little extra, but I guess it is nice to have some left if I need one more dose (luckily I have insurance paying for it).

My egg retrieval won't be under General Anesthesia. I will be under some anesthesia, but will be partially conscious. I wish I could just be under GA, but that's not how the RE does things. Now I am worried about them not giving me enough and it hurting really bad.

Kierra - still spotting?

You may be referring to my experience.  Mine hurt a lot, but my experience is definitely not the norm.  I didn't receive enough medication, so I was awake through mine.  So far, I'm the only person I know that this has happened to, so please don't worry!   My RE doesn't use GA either.  He uses something that makes you groggy so you halfway sleep and forget everything.  Yours probably uses the same or something similar.  But even still, I'm the only one that has remembered everything.

Weekend catch up!!

Screen Name: Silverbird

Where are you @ in this process & what's next: We've had the first few investigations and are on the list for IVF ICSI in October.  Next up is my husband to see the spinal specialist for rectal elctro stimulation and me to see the gynogly speicalist about my ovary being adheared to my uterus and find out if it nedds surgery.

Thoughts: I'm still v excited about the IVF I've been looking after myself well.  I'm finding it much easier to be around pregant women now I know I have a shot at it too!

I am really worried about my dh he's very depressed at the mo and spending three days in bed with a pressure sore hasn't helped.  the day after my next IVF appoimnet we have his next onccology appoimnet after which he will have to decided on more surgery and chemo.  I'm not looking forward to 9 months of chemo.  and why is it always 9 months? I feel like we keep gestating chemo instead of babies.

anyway sorry I've not had much time to write but I've been stalking and wishing you all well! dust.gif

Just need to cry/vent for a second.

2 friends from HS just announced their pregnancies.  1 is due 4 days after when I would have been.  The other 6 days before.  Can I just crawl under a rock?  I think I need to stay away from facebook for a while.

Sorry Kewpie. hug.gif

I gave myself the shots yesterday. Yay. It feels really good to actually be able to do this, I mean, I didn't think I had it in me to give myself a shot.

rcr - Glad to hear the shots are going good so far.  Song had said that the cartridges are over filled and with mine, using the follistim pen, I would just dial whatever I needed and it will give you all of it so you don't have to take them in to get drained as far as I know.  I know i was getting more than was stated to be in there with each one.  Also, i have a really weird tolerance to meds and that includes anesthesia.  I look like I wouldn't need much, but it seems that I always need more.  So when they did our ER they gave me a dose of the versed and they probably should have doubled it which they did after I was having pain.  Like I said before... if DH wouldn't have been in the room I wouldn't have even known I was in pain.  I only knew b/c he told me.  All i remember is waking up in the recovery room area and asking DH if they had done the procedure yet.  I only had mild AF like cramps, but don't even think I took anything but maybe one dose of tylenol.  You will be fine!  The problem with GA is that is last longer in your system and takes time to get out so it can leave you feeling tired and low energy for awhile with the Versed it is quick and sweet.  Just kinda puts you in la-la land!!

Kewpie- hug2.gif I hear ya girl!!!  Pretty much all of my friends started TTC like 2 yrs after we did and now most of them all have 2 children by now and we still can't even get our first.  I know the frustration.  Try to keep you head up and it will happen, easier said then done sometime i realize!!!!

Silver - hug2.gif to you too girl!!  You have a lot on your plate and it has to be hard, keeping you & DH in my thoughts and prayers.  I sure hope your appts go well and that DH starts to feel better.  Bed sores are not good...poor guy!

AFM - Got a phone call this am that my levels are now @ 5 something.  Last week they were 14.5 so that is good, but I just really wish they would totally clear out so we can get on with things or AF would just show up so I can try to plan the rest of my life.  I also just found out yesterday that I have to have elbow surgery again. I had the first surgery back in Sept (some of you Fall people may remember) and now I have to go in again!!  Grrrrrrrr irked.gif  Sucks b/c we were just about finished paying off bills from the last surgery and the IVF and now we are going to get hit again.  The other thing that sucks is with a new year you have to meet a new deductible too.  So frustrating!!!!  Waiting for a call back from the ortho nurse today, but I'm thinking it is going to be maybe next Wed the 9th.  Sure hope I pass the pregnancy test they give you before they will cut you open.

Silver Like Blue said, you really do have a lot on your plate. I couldn't imagine going through IVF and a husband with chemo, etc. at the same time. I just watched DSs babysitter go through it and it was a lot to take. hug.gif

I have a question, so should I be feeling any different from these stim meds? I don't. I have been expecting some pain in my ovaries or something, but I feel totally normal. I am only two days into it, but I have been expecting to feel something.

In my experience, I really didn't feel much different other than some bloating in my low abdomen.  My pants felt tighter a tiny bit and I did have a little cramping within a couple days before I triggered.  In the very beginning, I didn't feel much of anything.  The only thing that told me it was working was the u/s.

Silver - Big hugs to you!  I can't imagine going through what you are going through on top of IVF.  :(  You are so strong!

AFM - We went to see the RE today.  He wants me to have 2 cycles on the provera before we proceed with stimming just to make sure that there won't be any issues after the m/c.  He's also adding the low dose 81mg aspirin that I'm supposed to start when I start BCP.  I spaced and didn't ask what it was for.  Anyone have any idea?  So, I have 1 cycle of nothing and then next cycle (early march) I will be starting suppression.  Feels like so far away, but I'm glad he's being cautious.  He also will be doing several miscarriage tests to determine what caused it.  It'll be nice to know.  He feels that there was something wrong with the baby and that we will be able to carry the next one.  I hope his hunch is right.

rcr - I kinda had the same experience as Kewpie.  I thought for sure that i would have been more uncomfortable and i really wasn't too bad.  If i wouldn't have seen or heard I should say with my own ears at the U/S's I wouldn't have thought it was working for like the first week or so.  No worries.

Kewpie - I also am now on baby aspirin one a day.  They give that to people now a days if you have had recurrent m/c's just to be safe.  It is suppose to help with blood flow to the baby and help prevent any kinds of clots that could or might be an issue.  I also had the m/c testing done  (13 vials of blood be warned) and everything was fine, but they said i was herterozygous for MTHFR one gene which is why he recommended the baby aspirin to me, but said he didn't think that was our issue of why we have lost 3 babies.  A baby aspirin pretty much can't hurt anyone they figure.  I think it is an easy fix and am banking on it helping!  Good luck and i'm glad he seems to be pro-active in your case!!!  PS.  Don't you hate how Drs make you space out sometimes and you forget to ask all the important things and then think of them on the way home!!!!!

Ah, that makes sense.  Thanks for clearing that up.  Yeah, he's very proactive and he really cares.  He kept saying today how tore up he was to hear we lost the baby.  I love him!  We've already decided that if we move away, we're coming back to see him for treatments!

and yeah, I always remember the questions on the way home orngtongue.gif So funny how that happens.  I was thinking during the appt mostly about the testing and couldn't think about anything else.  I'm so glad I have all of you to ask when I space out! orngbiggrin.gif

There is a name for that baby asprin thing (I mean the reason for taking it). My RE tested me for it. She said that your blood can get tiny little clots that are too small to impact you, but they are big enough to impact the blood flow to the baby. I guess baby aspirin helps thin it out. I forgot the name for it.

I have my first post-stim u/s tomorrow. I am really excited to see how it is going, plus a little nervous.

Blue Yay for the declining number. Sounds like you will be at zero very soon.

Two Seperate sacs, no heart beats this time, I am only 5w3d, so they didn't even take the time to see if there was one present, just to make sure it wasn't an ectopic. I go back on the 14th, Valentines day to see heartbeats.  OMG I am pregnant, and with twins.

Love the profile pic, Kristina!

I just got back from my appointment. Right now I have two follies on the right and four on the left The largest was 1.1 cm, I think. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if I need to take the, um, what is the name of that other shot that makes you not ovulate- Gana-something. She said that I will start taking it when a follie gets larger than 1.2, so maybe I am close enough. Anyway, I should know by this afternoon. I hope I get more follies than just 6. I guess more can still grow, right?

Mom to DS 12/07 and DD 11/13, plus a bunch of chickens, dogs, and cats.

Moving past many years of infertility and always thinking of my friends in the infertility forums.

rcr-
Ganirelix I think is what you mean.  I was a slow starter and ended up stimming for almost 3 weeks.  I definitely had follicles popping up later, so I'd be willing to bet you will probably get more too.

Hello all!  I am new to this IVF journey....  I am 29 years old and have 3 beautiful children.  I had to work very hard to have them and now that my DH and I have decided to have one or maybe two if twins, more we have been told IVF is our only choice because my tubes are blocked...  Luckly our insurance covers 90% otherwise we wouldn't be able to afford more than one cycle...  I had my first appointment today with new RE and they are doing a dye test as AF shows (hopefully soon) and then if they are still blocked (pretty sure they are) we are on to IVF!!  He is thinking we should be able to start in March so retrieval falls during spring break (I'm a teacher so I'm off) Very excited and nervous... I want to thank you all I have read your post over the last few days and you have given me a great insight into this process!!  :)  Good luck to you all and lots of baby dust!!  (its been 6 years since I have talk fertility lingo but it will all come back to me!!) Thanks again all!!
