I have been TTC for 18 months now and am realizing it's time to seek help - can anyone help me find the right place to go for help? I went to my ob/gyn at the 12 month mark and she asked me some questions and did a quick pelvic exam and said everything looks/sounds fine to her. My husband is 31, I am 30, and I am having apparently regular cycles (I was charting with temps but I stopped temping a couple of months ago).

So - what do I look for, how do I choose a specialist? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi Polyhymnia, I remember you from a while back. I would recommend looking for a Reproductive Endocrinologist (RE). You can ask you ob/gyn if she has a recommendation/referral, or you can just google them in your area (also try infertility clinics). Call you insurance and find out what kind of coverage you have if any and which RE's in your area might be in your network.

At this point you should definitely have some basic testing done. Blood work, and HSG (to see if your tubes are blocked). I hope you find someone and that it is an easy fix.

Thanks, I have tried googling those things but there are a lot of places that look like "boutiques" or that seem to only advertise about IVF, and I wasn't sure if those are the right places to go. When I went to my OB/gyn back in August she didn't really seem concerned and didn't give me a referral anywhere so I don't know if I should go back to her first or...??  I do not have any infertility coverage on my insurance.

Yes most of them advertise and specialize in IVF but they deal with all infertility cases. A consult will run you around $200. Since you live in a large metro area where there is likely more than 1 RE you can probably "shop around" for consult prices.

You could go back to your ob/gyn and try to get her to run some of the tests under your insurance to save money.

I think I will try my ob/gyn again, I feel too overwhelmed by all of these specialists' websites to pick one! I'll go read the old threads here to figure out what to ask her for.
