Hi, all!  Posting for my SIL, who has been TTC for quite a while (incl Clomid/IUI) and is about ready to consider IVF.  She isn't the obsessive research type, but she wants to know all she can and feels the process of wading through the bad information is very daunting.  I am hoping some of you wise mamas can help by directing me to some good books, websites, or other resources to help her understand the process--physically and emotionally--and make some informed decisions about it.  I have browsed the archives here, but given the quickly changing nature of the field, most of the more general threads may be outdated, I think.  (She lives in Alameda, CA, btw, if that helps.  I believe she's in the Kaiser system.)  Thank you, thank you!

I live near your sister and have Kaiser.  They have an IVF center in Fremont and they have a website with more info.  She can have monitoring done with her local RE, and just go to Fremont for the egg retrieval and transfer portions.  She should call member services to see if her plan covers IVF.  I have heard they don't have the highest success rates, but there is a woman in my childbirth class who did IVF there.

There are many other options in the area, but her Kaiser would not pay for anything unless the clinic would allow her to do monitoring at Kaiser.  Good luck to your sister!

Married to a wonderful woman since 2010. Baby boy C arrived in June 2013!

I have a book suggestion. It's a children's book. Once she becomes pregnant, and if she used an egg donor or a sperm donor, we have a fabulous children's book about how to talk with your child about their donor conceived origins.

Another resource for books here:

Woman Code by holistic health coach Alissa Vitti is great! Not specifically about IVF, but the book is a program that "has successfully helped thousands of women to regulate their periods, clear up their skin, lose weight, alleviate PMS, get pregnant naturally, have more successful IVF, restore their energy, improve their moods and have better sex".
