I guess that is kind of a dumb question, since you probably wouldn't be here if it did...but does anyone have any uplifting IUI stories to share?

DH and I are looking into having HSG done soon, and if tubes are clear, maybe scheduling IUI w/ Clomid. I didn't want the Clomid (I seem to ovulate just fine), but the success rates seem to be so much better, that I don't think we can afford not to try it, if we go through with this at all.

The RE gave us 30-40% success rate for my age and situation, for 3-4 rounds of IUI....

I'd like to piggie back on your IUI question. I have a friend ttc with IUI and she has been unsuccessful with the 2 attempts. She asked if I knew of anything herbal or homeopathic to help promote the process. It seems most of the 'problem' with them is that her dh has very low sperm count...5% I think or something low like that.
Anything he or she can take?

Thank you!

I got pregnant with IUI after 12 or so attempts. I also had many other issues that resulted in three surgeries and lots of drugs. I would make sure that your RE is also sperm washing, especially if your DH has a low sperm count. It is worth it. I now have a beautiful 4y/o boy!

I've gotten pregnant twice with IUI. The first time I was on clomid (and got pregnant the first time we tried), and the second time I was not on clomid and it took three tries.

One thing that I think really helps your chances is to do more than one IUI per month. A lot of doctors will say that it doesn't make a difference, but there is one study that shows a 39% increased chance of pregnancy with doing two IUIs (one 12 hours after the hcg shot, and the other 34 hours after the hcg shot). Unless you know *exactly* when your egg is going to release (and I don't know how you could), doing one IUI is not that effective since sperm does not live very long inside the uterus (one book I have says it only lives 8 hours in there). Ideally, you will have sperm there waiting when the egg is released.

If the cost of two IUIs in one month is too much, then I would suggest only doing them every other month, and still doing two per month. I really think it increases your chances. So far, I've had a 50% success rate with IUI, doing two per cycle.

I also highly recommend acupuncture immediately after each insemination. Worked for me!

Good luck!

I got pg after my 3rd IUI (1st after I had an HSG). It was also my 2nd cycle using progesterone suppositories. We had some sperm count issues and I thought I might have an LP defect....HTH

I did 3 Clomid/IUI cycles when trying to conceive my DD. The first cycle was with the obgyn and there was no trigger shot, and the other 2 were with an RE and he did a trigger. The 3rd IUI cycle worked for me and we have a sweet girl who's almost three. We are thinking of doing it again, because it's been almost a year with no protection and no pregnancy yet. I'm tying clomid without iui this cycle just to see if we might do it on our own.

With a sperm count that low, she's almost entirely wasting her time with IUI. She needs IVF. I'm not saying that people haven't gotten pregnant that way, just that the odds are against her.

Three pregnancies via IUI, one with Clomid (miscarriage at 8w), and two with gonal-f (resulting in my two children.)

IUI + Clomid can work, but be careful not to do more than 3 cycles of Clomid at a time as after that it can thin out the uterine lining and actually impede fertility.

We are going to the clinic in September to have our IUI. I have polycystic cysts in both of my ovarys. I was pregnant in July and miscarried, but now my husband and I would like to try again. We are on a time restraint because he is deploying soon afterwards. So should we use clomid, which is comonly used for people with polycystic cystic cysts. Will it help us to concieve our first try. I read some peoples notes about shots to help stimulate ovulation. Does that help?

We did clomid + IUI on first dd, worked first time. I am taking clomid right now and still am debating to do the IUI this first cycle or wait till the next one. DH has a low count, so I am thinking it may be best to do the IUI.

I just wanted to update. That clomid cycle referenced above did not work. It was 50mg and my 7dpo progesterone was 6.9, I took 100mg the next time and went back to my old RE (LOVE him!). I had 2 eggs and I'm pregnant with a singleton. My progesterone at 7dpo that time was 15.9 and I also had the trigger shot. I think that is the key for me--I need that hcg trigger, I will never recommend going to an obgyn for IF treatments. Definitely go to an RE.

And good luck to all those TTC!

I got pregnant through IUI via Follistim. I now have a beautiful 1 year old son. It's a frustrating, painful, crappy seemingly never-ending experience through infertility- but it worked for me.

I got pregnant from IUIs.

We did 2 in per cycle, Friday and Monday. I ovulated Sunday.
Sperm was frozen donor sperm. 70mil with great motility.
No drugs, only Ovulation predictor pee sticks for monitoring.

Took 1 cycle.

if you ovulate fine, I honestly would not mess with clomid UNLESS your doc is going to closely monitor you. It can mess up what nature is doing just fine.

As long as the sperm is good quality, IUI's should work great!

My first was IUI, not clomid, but a shot to help stimulate egg production (been 5 years, cant remember the names), shots to keep me from O, and then one to help O.

My second was a huge surprise! We were about to start shots again and found out I was pregnant. I had PCOS and had lost 30+ pounds and wham my body kicked in.

Good luck!

We tried IUI's with clomid/monitoring and trigger shots. I had one BFP that unfortuantly turned into a BFN just a day later. I know it works for many people and it might have for us but we gave up after IUI number 4 because it was just too hard on us emotionally.

HSG's are supposed to boost the success rate a bit!

I did five rounds of clomid without an IUI, and did not conceive on any of them. Then I did two rounds of Repronex with IUIs, and conceived on the second one. Now I wish I'd insisted on an IUI with clomid, because I might've been able to have 2 kids by now.

All attempts with frozen anonymous donor sperm - I did a single IUI with clomid and conceived my DD the first time (after some failed ICI attempts at home and finding out that I have a unicornuate uterus and my right ovary is there, but not connected to anything - thus I can only get pg when ovulating from the left side). Wow, that was a confusing sentence!

I am not trying to conceive again, and just had a single IUI yesterday (Friday) morning after the OPK was positive on Thursday. I am using what is left of the donor my dd was conceived with, and hoping for a genetic sibling. I have 3 more vials of this donor, but they are not great samples (lower sperm count). This was the best sample.

I did clomid last month too, but a vaginal ultrasound showed that it was my right ovary that had the largest follicles (the ovary that is not connected to my uterus).

Fingers crossed, and good luck to my fellow IUIers!
