I'm going in for an infertility workup on the 6th. I REALLY don't want to have a vaginal exam. I've had a million of them and they've all been perfectly normal, so I see no reason to have one now. I'm just wondering if they will refuse to help me if I don't consent (this is military docs, by the way). I got my blood drawn this morning and I'm getting an amdomino-pelvic ultrasound tomorrow, so is there any real reason for a VE? Is there something they're going to be able to see that they wouldn't be able to get from manual palpation and that has never shown up in six years of exams?

s I hope you are able to convince them if they are going to do an ultrasound anyway, you probably don't need a VE.

However, I notice you have a 1 year old you are still nursing? I know there are lots of moms here who do get pregnant while nursing, but not all of us can. Not everyone's body is able to do that. So your fertility may improve on its own once your child has weaned. (I am not advocating weaning at ALL, btw) I know a number of moms here who said they concieved after their milk had completely dried up, but were unable to do so before that.

I do hope you get the baby you want soon!
Peace,

I got my period back at 8 1/2 months PP. I had three cycles, then nothing but some random spotting. This, plus my previous history of infertility and amenorrhea, qualifies me for a workup. Even if I don't get pregnant till after DS is done nursing, I still want to find out what's going on with my periods.

I hope they do find out what's going on! That has to be frustrating!

Hi Mandy,

I too hope that you get the baby you want, and soon! I guess I'm wondering what exactly a vaginal exam is. All of my RE work-ups are about the uterus and ovaries, and they've used an vaginal ultrasound. No speculum till we did an IUI. Hope this helps!

I bet they'll want to do a pap. Especially if it has been more than 6 months (at least that is what I've found in IF journey. They always seem to want to do a pap :
