I used the Instead for years and loved it. After dd2 was born I got the Paraguard in and the CNM who put it in said I probably shouldn't use Instead anymore.

I just got my first post-partum period (18 months after giving birth; gotta love breastfeeding) and I'm reminded of why I stopped using tampons in the first place. I hate them. My vagina is so dry after wearing that darn thing in.

The strings on my IUD are very soft and barely stick out of my cervix so I don't think expulsion of the IUD will be an issue.

I tried looking on the Divacup's website and couldn't find anything in the FAQs about an IUD.

Help please? Anybody have any experience with this?

I don't understand how a vaginal menstrual cup would interfere with an IUD. Are you not allowed to use tampons either?

I don't know. I've never used a vaginal menstrual cup. The Instead site says not to use them with an IUD. Tampons are okay, but I despise them.

The suction from the cup can potentially pull the IUD out or down.

I used my diva cup when I had mine. I didn't think twice about it (I only used it a couple times since I hate the diva ) but found out later it may have not been the best idea. My IUD did fall out, though I can't say it was due to that.

Not sure if there are any cups you can use. I never thought about it honestly. Maybe I should have.

Okay, so what if I break the suction when removing it?

You're supposed to anyhow. I think it's such a personal thing. My sister had no problem with her iud and diva. The way she removes her diva though the suction breaks really early on. The way I have to remove my diva though, due to the way it sits inside, the suction doesn't break until closer to the entrance of my vagina. That may have been the issue.

Hmm, I never thought about my Diva Cup potentially sucking out my Mirena! I've been using it for over a year with no problems :

I have no problem using a Diva cup (except that horrid name!) with my IUD. I just make sure to break the suction.

Mama to DS1 (2/08) and DS2 (9/10).

If your cervix sits really really low when you're bleeding menstrual cups seem more likely to cause problems. Another option is sea sponge tampons -- not as drying as regular tampons, and no suction issues. Unfortunately, also not as foolproof as menstrual cups.
