Does anyone know how long you need to abstain prior to the removal of the Mirena IUD to avoid getting pregnant when it is removed? I remember reading this information at some point, some where but I forgot how long it was and I am having no luck on google. Thanks!

Wouldn't it be just the 7 days or so sperm can live? I had mine out on May 18th BTW and the the month after is weird....I had like 2 periods and then what I thought was a third, but was actually very heavy bleeding for 17 days. Now I'm trying to chart and it's still messed up.

I've heard TTC after Mirena can take a few months but some one always gets pregnant the first month after. HTH.

Thanks mrforbes. My cycle is already so messed up from the Mirena I don't see how removing it could possibly make it worse lol. Thank you for the heads up though.

Yeah it makes it really worse. I'm still trying to chart mine and figure it out. Good luck!
