AF returned at 6 mos. post partum, despite frequent feedings. Now I want to use NFP for birth control, but am not sure about temperature charting. As far as I understand, you're supposed to take your temperature after at least 5 hours of consecutive sleep (and at the same time every morning). Well, I never get 5 hours of sleep in a row. Does it work to chart BBT in such circumstances?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

The book Taking Charge of Your Fertility says you need 3 hours of consecutive sleep, not 5. I have a three mo old, and am charting. I figure that I take it at the same time every morning, and have usually woken up last to nurse roughly 3 hours before that... Not the greatest method I know - but I'm trying to establish patterns not so much avoid (so far I've only had anovulatory cycles.) Have you read any books about this yet? I really suggest TCOYF. It takes a little more effort to interpret cycles while BF, but it's not impossible.

Thanks Gillian.

I actually have read TCOYF (but lent it to my SIL, who was TTC), but for some reason I recalled that it was 5 hours. If it's three, I can probably do that (most nights anyway)!
