I'm bfeeding my 9 mo and recently went off Micronor cuz I suspected it was giving me headaches (I've been off it 2.5 weeks and no headaches )

During the past two weeks I think I've been ovulating but its been almost constant and seems to be dying down now. I remember last time I went off the pill I also seemed to ovulate twice in month before I became regular (I also had 2 periods that month!).

Anyways, does this fall within the range of normal while bfeeding? It doesn't smell and isn't a weird color so I don't suspect vaginal irritation or infection.

Hi KiwiZ,

It is hard to say whether or not that is normal. Breastfeeding provides an abundance of the hormone prolactin, which suppresses secretion of estrogen (and ovulation). If you were taking a hormone (progesterone or low-dose estrogen), that sort of counteracts most of the prolactin from breastfeeding.

I guess what I am saying is that, hormonally speaking, you are not the same as a woman who is BF who never took hormones at all, KWIM?

Having said that, I will also say that irregular cycles are *very* common when your fertility is returning.

Hope this helps,

Jean, happy HS mom to Peter (5), Daniel (9) and Lucie (2) and also someone new... baby.gif

It's hard to say. Before I got pg this time, I had fertile cm almost everyday pp. I also have long fertile cycles when I'm not bfing and things are 'normal'. BFing can always bring on fertile patches of cm and not necessarily be Oing.
