What are your experiences with dollar store tests? Have you had any false negatives (or positives) with cheaper tests? I just bought one and it seemed to me the only difference between the cheap ones and the 10 dollar ones is in the packaging and convenience. But I thought I'd ask - how reliable have the cheap tests been for you?

I'm CTA, but after a little confusion, my husband wanted me to test just to be sure. We usually buy the more expensive ones, but when I found one for 1$ (and knowing how often I like to test just to be sure) I was really excited. I'm sure he will worry though that the cheap ones can't be trusted. So let me know what you think, so I can (hopefully) calm his worries!

I've heard Dollar Tree tests are really sensitive and generally good. I've had false positives on them in the past (like wide pink lines, but after 10 min.), so I would just use them as a first indicator and then follow up with a FRER.

They have been accurate for me and I have used them and had several negatives and 2 positives with them.

Dollar Store tests gave me better BFP results than FRER!

At 9 and 10 dpo, my Dollar Store backup tests had a much darker postive line than my pricey FRER tests.

I used the same FMU on both tests, but the Dollar Store was a faster, stronger, easier to read result.

With BFNs, I had the same results on both Dollar Store and FRER too.

If I was ever going to do it again, I'd save my money and just use Dollar Store tests.

Good luck!

Thanks! but also, I'm a little confused.
FRER - first response...?
FMU - first morning urine
BFN?
BFP?

Is there a thread or a chart somewhere that will tell me what some of these abbreviations mean? most of the time I can figure it out, but sometimes I'm totally lost!

I don't know if there's a thread, but...

BFN=big fat negative
BFP=big fat positive

Dollar Store tests worked great for me, which is good since when I was ttc I tested obsessively from like 8 or 9 days past ovulation.

Just in case you haven't testing I wanted to let you know there is a bad batch of $ store tests right now. Check out the trying to conceive page for more details. I had 4 false positives, not cool!

I bought some tests for the Dollar Tree and they are actually more sensitive than some of the more expensive brands like EPT, ClearBlue and First Response.

I have heard the dollar store are great.

If you are looking for cheap pregnancy tests. Check these out. When I was TTC, I used to test 5-8 time per cycle lol. You have to collect urine in a cup then dip them in for 20 seconds or so. Really simple to use.

I got a BFP at 9 dpo with these.

I got a bfp at 9dpo and my daughter is 5 days old now so I'd say they are reliable

FYI acronym FAQ

dollar tree cassette tests are supposed to be good. I used a no-name dollar store dip stick test and it was ok, very very faint, but the frer (that's first response early result) was faint too.
