Has anyone gotten pregnant while fitting all of the following?
1) Baby less than six months old
2) No menstrual cycles
3) Exclusively breastfeeding at least every 4 hours during the day and every 6 hours at night
I know this method is supposed to ensure less than 2% pregnancy risk, which I cannot really afford to take. (Baby #4 is 12 weeks old and I'm still trying to decide on a birth control method.) I was just wondering if any of you have conceived under these circumstances.
I am just that... an exception. I got pregnant when my 2nd was 4 months. Yes I was exclusively breastfeeding day and night, on demand, freely, liberally, etc. etc.
I had only some spotting the month before. And bingo! But I must admit, I quickly realized after my 1st baby that I was to be very carefull because my menstruations returned 5 weeks post partum even with exclusive day night breastfeeding!
I didn't even attempt it since I got AF back at 4 weeks with my ds. Sure enough I got AF back at 2 mos with dd. I am using FAM though and so I was charting my cervical fluid and temperature so I knew I was fertile and then ovulated. FAM has worked great for us so far, no mistakes yet and dd is 10 mos old.
LAM kept my cycles away for 29 months. And it only came back after my ds was nightweaned. If you haven't gotten your cycle back, why not use LAM with the withdrawl method?
LAM can be 98% effective if your baby is under 6 months old.
The withdrawl method can be 96% effective if your partner is able to do it ever time.
Another thing you can do is to check your cervical fluid every day.
I'm relying on LAM at the moment- I have a track history of conceiving within 2 weeks of introduction of solids, though, before the first pp period, so I'm observing my cervical mucus pretty closely as well.
