I just signed up for an account, and it is a lot different than anything else I have used. Anyone have any tips on how to get people to follow you and generate leads? So far I have linked it to my blog and plan to offer a special deal for referrals. Thanks mamas!

I do have twitter but I don't actively use it. I have a blog attached to my website that I post on and then just have the posts pushed to the twitter account. I also have a facebook page I repost stuff on too. I don't know how many leads I generate from these but it does keep current clients in the loop and remind past clients I'm still there and can do more work for them. So its helped in that way at least.

I started using my account recently. Start using hashtags, like #clothdiaper or #hooping to connect with people with similar interests. This link has been very helpful for me http://www.coachradio.tv/category/bl...edia-tutorials

Yes, that's how it works. I'm new to twitter to but I noticed that the more I follow, the more followers I will have.

This is because when u follow, your existence becomes evident and people can find you and follow u back.

Good luck!

Nina - Thanks for the link to coachradio, it looks like they have some really helpful information.

Thanks to everyone else for your advise. Twitter is really different than anything else I have ever used.

Oh! I love Twitter. When I first started using it I didn't like it. It was confusing and difficult to navigate because it was still in the newer stages and because I was using it via their webpage only. I was completely lost (and I'm a geek!). Then I started using Tweetdeck! It organizes 'threads' of topics so I can follow favorite topics and tweets more easily. For clients that will only work on a Windows machine, I've heard good things about Brizzly and Seesmic.

There are some great beginner how to lists out there. Let me grab the ones that I remember and/or have bookmarked --

(I like UnMarketing's website. His focus is "Stop marketing to your customers. Connect and build a relationship with them.")

I'm an XBOX fangirl so to give an example, I'll share some of my favorite XBOX bigwig tweeters who I think are 'doing it right' . They do a great job of posting a mix of both business and personal tweets. --

I got to 'know' them via Twitter. When I was at PAX East, I attended their Live Podcast. Later in the day I found them and had my picture taken with them. When I got home, I tweeted about it and had a brief private twitter convo with some of the XBOX people who attended. It was such a geekout moment. I loved it! LOL

So ~ I'm not an expert by any means! But I read my Tweetdeck multiple times a day and know what types of tweets I like as a consumer. I even have TweetDeck set to chime when tweets from certain people/companies get posted.
