Has anyone registered a domain name on the internet? There are so many sites to go to for registering and I an overwhelmed and don't know which one is "safe."  I realize I have to pay a fee but do I own it forever? How do I go about making a website under the name I register?

So many questions -- is there a recommended site you have used? One you like or dislike?

Thanks for sharing your expertise.

I'm not an expert, but my husband is a web designer and he uses GoDaddy. :)

I've always used GoDaddy. They give you free 'parking' so for example, you can register  thisismybloganditscool.org and then forward it for free to your blogspot or whatever blogging site you already have online. So whenever anyone types in your domain, it goes to your blog.

It's been less than a year, but I use godaddy too. I don't like all the ads and how they try to get you to add stuff on to your domain name purchase, but they have good customer service.

just go to their website, and type in the domain you want, see if its available and how much it will cost. Theres some taxes on it. The fee is per year, but you can pay up front for more than one year to save money.

I refuse to use GoDaddy (no offense, guys. I just can't help pay for those ads!). I use DreamHost both as my registrar and as my hosting company. They've done no wrong by me!

I used Homestead for all my website stuff, including domain registration.
