Fabric TeePee (Tee Pee, Tipi)?? SPAM ME!

Does anyone here make something like this or know someone who does? I saw one at a local LLL conference and DS LOVED it. I ordered him one for Christmas, but it wasn't what I was looking for at all.

So, it's just a fabric teepee with poles made out of pvc pipe. Easy, simple, the door is just a slit in one side the tee pee that has been hemmed. If I could sew, I could make it myself, but alas...

TIA.

my dds have one my aunt made for them using bamboo for the poles. it is really cute, but she doesn't do them for sale. it looks pretty easy, though. do you sew at all? have a friend or relation that does? might could find a pattern online if so...

SURE! That would at least be a start - I have a seamstress who does samples for me, so I could probably get her to do it up for me.

I am a good researcher and I can't find anything except those $288 designer ones that although I'd love to have for DS, wouldn't in a million years pay that much for.

okay, here are some links for you. personally i really like the bamboo poles or garden stakes instead of PVC since that stuff is so evil, but i think you could make the poles out of just about anything. i know my aunt just used a bed sheet (and maybe a pillow case around the opening) for the "canvas". it has a cute ladybug print and is really nice. the bamboo poles have holes drilled through them at the top with a cord/twine/string tying them together. if you pick it up by the top it collapses for storage. to open it up you just spread the poles apart at the bottom on the floor. she made a little matching pillow for snuggling with inside, too. it's really cute.

I bought a pattern from Sewzanne's (pretty sure it was there.) It was like from the 70s. It is the best pattern that I have seen. JoAnn's sells one, too, but it uses way more fabric and is wider than it is taller. It takes almost 4 yards of 60" fabric and takes an evening to complete.

My kids LOVE their teepees. I even made one for my daughter to give as a gift at a birthday party. It was the HIT of the party.

My 5yod asked for another teepee for Christmas. It is still on my To Do list. I am ordering some glow in the dark snaps and I will pattern out constellations on this next one.

I wanted to get one so badly for my boys for Christmas but I started the search too late in the game. I found this seller on ebay who makes them and they sell at a great price but unfortunately are made with pvc. I love the windows she adds to them. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

We emailed back and forth a few times about her teepees. She's a grandma who has been making them for quite some time. She claims that they are easy to fold up and store nicely but require a bit of help from mom or dad to open and set back up (she said my 8 year old couldn't probably do it alone after being instructed) She claims that they stay up well (the last teepee I bought for the boys would start falling in if there was even a slight bump to one of the poles) and that the fabric can only be spot cleaned (not preshrunk so she does not recommend removing the fabric to wash). I do like the idea of the rubber tips on the bottom of the poles. This makes it nice for outdoors and probably helps it stand better too (no scratching or slipping around on wood floors maybe). But I bet you can add these tips (can buy them in packages) to bamboo. I really love the idea of bamboo better and wonder if this seller wouldn't be interested in doing a custom teepee for me using the bamboo poles. I do sew and could make one myself (have seen the patterns online) but I've got an online business which is keeping me incredibly busy and I can see myself turning to the bottle if I tried to undertake such a huge sewing project lol

Making a teepee would be a great craft/sew along though. That would be really fun. Right now, for me, not as much fun as zapping someone's paypal account and having it shipped to me in a nice, easy-open box

Well, Ashley... I just happen to know a few Tipi sewers.

I am sure if you wanted one they could make a minnie version for you. One is my friend Aixa and the other is the owner of wiseways. Personally I like the pattern on the first link beanma gave you. That looks like a no sew project. I too would use bamboo or something other though.
