I am looking for a PR person - I heard they aren't that expensive, but I am wondering how would go about finding one for children's clothing and accessories. Anyone know?

TIA!

I would recommend 32 Flavors PR:

http://www.32flavorspr.com/

The owner is great and she is super in-touch with the childrens' market.

Hope that helps!

Wow - I think I will be doing it all myself. I did call and thought the owner was terrific. She spent a lot of time with me explaining how it all works, but "surprisingly affordable" - what someone else said to me about PR work - was not what I expected. I think it makes more sense if you are higher production with a more limited selection but that is not me at all. I think I have to continue the small production/growth and self-promotion. I think part of me also likes the challenge of doing it all by myself, relying on word of mouth; this gives me the space to breathe and grow how/when I want, I guess.

Oh, she was much less than that, but still. I have had a considerable amount of success without my own PR (I am continuing to get in really trendy magazines without trying) so maybe I should just count my blessings.

Actually... her PR person *is* my current PR person. And they are great. The only problem is that it directs my product to their site. I couldn't ethically (or contractually, I suppose) use the same PR person.
I think they are pretty good PR people, though.

Everything seems like its $10k+ for services like this for me. But I totally need to have PR help! Ugh, I'll have to start shopping around for one myself, I'll make it a goal to start researching for a good PR person next month and hope to have someone by the end of summer.

Okay since we're all in the same boat - needing PR but lacking funds to hire a professional. We all sell products that are geared towards a similar target audience. How can work together to get some press attention?

Who here has press releases?
I have one but is needs a bit of help before it is ready to send...maybe we could begin by helping each other edit our press releases?

Then we need to submit them to magazines...does anyone have any experience with that?

Lets get some PR girls!

I have no knowledge of how to do a press release. It is my guess that the big magazines usually do most of their work with (or get direct information from) the same PR people. I wish I could just send the stuff directly to the magazines....? So far I have been picked for everything that I submit, but it goes under my vendor's site. I may just find a way to be happy remaining small. I think there is also a lot of growth to be done at a smaller level, in some ways.

I have some experience writing press releases. If anyone wants me to take a look at theirs, or would like some help putting one together, let me know. I'll take first come, first served for as long as I have time!

I do some PR in my jobs now and I recently found these books. I consider them to be great assets. Both are geared towards woman as consumers and include timely ideas for how to do this. The Karma Queen book is really interesting. It's about us!

You all seem to be talking about big bucks PR. But if anyone is interested there's this great book someone from another forum is doing

Her site: http://prbasics.co.uk/

The book which is easy to read and full of practical advice and a workbook is called
A guide to promoting your business

I've found it good with a lot of practical examples and food for thought.

Playing one day at a time
