Hi
I posted some time ago for help with business names. I am narrowing it down and have 3 names I'd like to ask for your input.

My previous post:
Right now we are focusing on ONE product which is a modest examination garment to be used in situations like pap smears, colonoscopies, labour/birth, anything that might require the private parts to be exposed...

A couple of the local hospitals and midwives are looking into carrying them for the various ethnic/religious communities (however surprisingly many non religious ppl are interestd in these too) that put a high value on modesty..

I hope to one day expand to other dignified patient gowns as well so dont want the name too specific..

some ideas to get started are : preserving dignity, covering everything except what is necessary, cultural sensitivity, helping to break down barriers to obtaining medical treatment (for example many women in our community dont go for mammograms or pap smears b/c of having to uncover, esp. with male staff etc)

The 'scores' are based on a book I read re: naming ur business.

There are 4 categories:

Promotes Desired Image /40
Suggestive/Descriptive of what you are about /30
Easy-To-Use (ie. spelling, easy to say etc) /20
Scope for expansion /10
Total /100

If you're up to it I'd love to see what ppl score each of these names.

I don't like them. (I'm honest at least! )

I don't like "modest" because, I don't know, maybe that's the buzz word in that industry/culture, but to me it's like calling people who are intentionally being silent (e.g., as a form of meditation or religious observance) "shy". I don't necessarily associate a personality trait with a garment choice. Also if you read that word too many times and it starts to look like a combination between 'rodent' and 'model'. I'm sorry... I am SO giving you my initial gut reaction here. :

How about something simple like We've Got You Covered.

it's hard to get answers on this part of the boards ..there's not as much traffic so i posted in TAO b4 but it got pulled and all the posts died down..

I like the humor -- and the simplicity -- of "We've Got You Covered." I would have possibly (and with reluctance) voted for "Modest Expectation," but since I like Dickens, I kept wanting to stick an "s" at the end of "expectation."

Also, none of the other names really spell out that what you're selling is CLOTHING.

The thing about "We've Got You Covered" is that the humor plays nicely against the religious fundamentalist appeal of the product in a GOOD way: usually religiously-oriented garments and products are singularly humorless and kind've sober...conveying the idea that modest people never laugh or have fun. This name plays against that image, and its straightforward, breezy nature makes it appealing. If I saw a store with that name, I'd at least look around, like I always wanted to at the used Indian clothing store in Chicago called "Whose Sari Now?"

There can be another business with the same name, but as long as there's not another medical gown industry with the same name, you're good! e.g., You see Acme used for grocery stores and tool manufacturers and painters, but you can't open ANOTHER grocery store and name it Acme.

I understand your frustration with having your post pulled from TAO, however the moderators have to keep the topics aligned with the appropriate forums and this is the perfect forum for WAHM businesses.

You can certainly bump any threads up here that aren't getting enough attention. It is an active forum, so some of the threads can move down quickly without getting the attention desired.

I can see where you're going with the names but there was something that bugged me about the choices listed.

As someone mentioned the reference to "Great Expectations" and that's what kept coming to my mind too; as well as the theme from the Sat. Night Live skit "Lowered Expectations".
And although I liked Dignity Designs probably the best, there's something about it that's bugging me. Maybe the alliteration? Maybe I like "Dignified Designs" better than the word Dignity in that title? Not sure. Maybe Dignified Coverings?
The word "Edition" doesn't work for me personally. I think of books or software or something like that. Definitely not clothing. And definitely something cold, not comforting.

Another word I thought had a feminine edge was Demure (not as stuffy as dignified or as "silly" as modest although personally that word doesn't bother me). Maybe something with Demure.....? It sounds more like a choice of style as opposed to a personality quirk. :-) Just throwing out yet another idea just in case.

I thought "We Got You Covered" was really cute but you did mention the length and I agree. Plus, although I think I would appreciate a bit of humor in that particular circumstance, much of your clientele base may not find themselves to be in a frame of mind to appreciate the lightness (again, considering the circumstances they'd be in when wearing your gowns).

How about something like "Cover Me Modest" like a reference to the phrase "Color Me......whatever"

Sorry this process is so frustrating. :-)
I definitely don't have a perfect answer but maybe one of the thoughts I threw out can help trigger something?
Good luck!

I'm not sure this is accurate. There is a coffee shop in my town that has been in the middle of a huge legal battle with a chocolate company in another state. That company sued them for using ONE WORD in common in their name, as well as a slightly similar logo (both had crescent moons). Really ridiculous. So I'd check that your name (whatever you decide) isn't already used anywhere else.

Modest Edition
Dignity Designs
Modest Expectation

I'm not crazy about Edition or Expectation in the name. I do like the word Modest though - it says what it means without offending.

Dignity in the title says to me that other options aren't dignified, so I don't like that as much. Modest is better. Saying you are modest (if I'm not) doesn't offend me - but telling me you are dignified infers that I'm not, which is offensive. If that makes any sense.

Modest Wear?

Medical Modesty?

I don't know.....

yikes. Well, certainly nothing will prevent people from suing these days lol, but the rules governing business naming are fairly straightforward and well publicized (simple web search). Maybe coffee is too close to chocolate... both foods or something... and having the same logo introduces an entirely different set of issues.

****
I like Demure too. How about Demure Wear or something?

Are you mostly marketing to the health care providers themselves, or to the individual patients? Is this something that HCP's will have in stock at their hospitals/clinits, or that a patient would purchase and bring with her to use at the clinic/hospital?

most heavy marketing will go to hcp's and hospitals/clinics..but I will market to individual buyers as well..

I did have Demure Couture..especially cuz i loved the fact it rhymed, plus that it was 'funny' in the sense that most of the women i'm marketing too obvisouly dont care about what's couture since they are hijabed and veiled.it also made reference to clothing..but then it sounded weird with couture in hospital wear..but maybe that's an angle I can work on for fun?

i dont know..i was kinda 'grieving' the fact i couldnt have fun with this cuz it's so 'boring' kwim? I mean i love my product love the idea of it being out there but the whole medical angle is so blah

I don't think "Demure Couture" rhymes. :

But I do love where you're going with the name. ITA that it doesn't need to be boring and stuffy, and maybe that's what was a turnoff about Modest Edition etc. I think your idea is amazing, btw, and I know you'll find the right name!!

I voted for Modest Edition because that's the one I like best of all of them, but I don't personally love it. I'm not sure I personally like the word Dignity, maybe Dignified...

What about something like Modest HealthWear or something that's more descriptive of the product.

hmm maybe i'm saying demure couture wrong?
i thought ppl would be offended at the word 'demure' ..kinda like we're showing off ..dont really know how to express what i mean..

the reason i thought dignity is b/c if you do a search u'll find lots of companies selling 'dignity' gowns though they are not as covered as the ones i've designed..

If you are going for the Couture (and it looks like maybe from the above?) I like the Demure Couture you posted above with "We've got you covered"

That said... you're the one who's going to have to live with it forever. What one or two speak to you the most? Are you looking for classy, cute, fun, chic, or 'hip', etc. in a name? If you picture your store or website, what style of decorating do you see?
