It all depends on were you are...

When I was in MA I had to register with the state.
I moved to NH and was told to go threw my town office, I called and they said in my town, I don't have to do anything to register just sell... I live in a farm town and most of the land here is farm that is how 99% make a living..

Start by calling your town mine goes threw the building inspecter (again small town so yours may actuly have a dept for small business)

HTH,
Liz

I registered with the State department of taxation. I was able to do it all online. At that time they gave me my resale tax id number that you provide to the manufacturers for them to verify that you are a business. Each month I report the state taxes I collected and make my payment. I have to file wether or not I collect anything. I also got a business license from the city I live in. I found our state dept of taxation by typing "Virginia State Taxes" in to my search engine. HTH!

Forgot to add the reason why you don't have to register if you are in NH is cause it is tax free... there is no sales tax on anything adn they don't have Resale tax ... It makes it harder to order whole sale items but, I have a state written letter I can give to anyone who asks me for my tax ID #

HTH,
Liz

I picked up my phone book and found the number for the Sales Tax and Use Division and called for an application to be mailed. Then, just followed through.

All the information I needed to know came on the packet. It told me my local county tax and then the first time I filled it out (file monthly - mail check to IRS State Department of Sales Tax and Use) I called to make sure that I broke down the percentages correctly in all the areas.

The Small Business Association is great for directing you and guiding you in your area.
I was able to file for some forms online and others had to be done at the courthouse and recorder's office, so I'd call first!
