I see the nurse practitioner at my GP's office this coming Thursday. It'll be mostly discussing how we want to handle my high chance of having ICP again. We don't have midwives here, and I wouldn't do unassisted with my complications. It's just a question of when to start with the OB. Here they usually have you see your family doctor until 30-34 weeks and then the OB, but I may need to be handed off to the OB earlier.
Besides my regular job I'm a midwife assistant so I already hired my homebirth midwife... I've had two UCs before but my midwife is the bomb, it's not even remotely invasive.
6w ultrasound is where I'm starting off, so I still have a week and a half to even possibly get there. Hoping to heart heartbeat. [emoji175]
My last was born at home, I will probably use the same midwife again, she is great (and also very non-invasive!) Our local birthing center is very small and delivery is done by midwives so it's nice to know if anything happens early we can go there. I will probably wait until I am 8 + weeks to contact anyone. The only person that knows right now is my partner.
@BirthFree that's awesome you've had UC's. I'd love to do that, hubby isn't on board at all.
Our insurance sucks big time right now, so I finally am able to converse about homebirth. It'll cost $9000 or so to have the hospital birth through insurance and I'm thinking a homebirth has to be less than that, by far. I'm planning a homebirth, with or without him, hahaha. Everyone will think I'm nuts, but I love my life so differently than my family, that they won't expect less.
I'm still searching for a midwife, I'm hoping I'll be able to locate one I like before too long.

Homebirth here is arounf $2500-$4000 depending on practitioner, jsut for the birth itself though.
I know because I'm a VBAC and out of hospital midwife attended VBACs are not covered by insurance in my state, so need to pay for the birth itself out of pocket (they'll pay for pre and post natal care)
Homebirth midwife (and fingers crossed about that - my biggest fear is always risking out, and that happened last time though it ended up being an unplanned homebirth so in a roundabout way I got my wish - long story). We'll be doing the initial prenatal visit whenever the free cell non invasive testing already gives good results - I think that's about 10 weeks. I'm pretty low intervention, so nothing much to do before that.
Just had my initial visit on Tuesday. Figured out that I'm so dizzy because my blood pressure is 76/42!
I'm a midwife and lucky to live near my midwife from my first birth (when I was a student), so I get to have her again! I called her as soon as I peed on the stick and made her save me a spot. I also called her a few months ago before we starting TTC so we could plan it around her vacation
I chose an earlier appointment because I wanted IPS this time and wanted to get that organized.
Planning another home birth. I'm so lucky to live where it's all covered by public health insurance. I can't imagine how hard it must be for you guys who are trying to find a midwife or trying to decide if you can afford the birth you want. I really feel for you :stillheart Maybe you should all just move to Canada

Well, I was denied for Medicaid, and the ACA plan I have has a $7000 deductible. So I've made an appointment with a free clinic on Tuesday. At least I should be able to get proof of pregnancy and maybe an ultrasound.
Same thing with me, ACA plan with $7,000 deductable I have to meet before plan kicks in- that is why we are planning on going the homebirth route. But, of course, our insurance doesn't cover that- so it won't go towards our deductable. But it is a fraction of the cost we would have with a hospital birth. Our insurance company quoted us that a typical vaginal delivery without complications would likely cost upwards of 6K for me and then there is cost if baby is admitted for any reason as well (another 7K deductable for baby.) so all told if things don't go well it could cost us more than 15K (homebirth fee plus family max out of pocket from healthcare).
So clean living and healthy habits and as low stress as possible for me this pregnancy!
It's just very frustrating. This state stripped the pregnancy medicaid program with the introduction of the AHA. They wrongly thought that pregnancy counted as a life change, so they changed the income limit from 200% poverty level to 133%. We are about 140-150%. I can't change the AHA plan we are on. The state admitted that they misunderstood the law, but still didn't change the income requirements!
I'm trying not to get too stressed over it. Husband is a medic and can check my BP. I will look into self-pay for an anatomy ultrasound when the time comes. I have had a vaginal, csection, then VBAC so I mostly would like to make sure there are no placenta issues. Other than that, I've never had a complicated pregnancy.
I'm tempted to cancel my useless AHA plan, but then they would fine me at tax time too :irked
My first appointment ended up cancelled because of a blizzard. Rescheduled for this coming Thursday. Crossing my digits for some diclectin lol, I don't want a repeat of last pregnancy's ER trips.
I'm dubious about the validity of this pregnancy right now, so I might wait a few weeks! They don't do our first scans until around 9 weeks anyway. The only reason I think I would go in is if my morning sickness gets really bad right away. I have horrific "morning sickness" until about 18 weeks. NaturallyKait, I am going to try and convince my OB to get me diclectin right away as well! I know it's more commonly used in Canada, but it's also the only thing I've heard that will keep HG women out of the ER when they've been puking up their guts for weeks on end.
Also I don't have time to be sick. So hopefully we can get on top of it!

until you can get diclectin, you might be able to make do with ginger, B6 (40-80mg/day), and/or gravol. Some new studies are saying that B6 alone might be just as effective as diclectin (but I'm not if I believe them)
Yeah here diclectin is really common. Last time I got it after ending up in the ER for IV fluids. It was a serious life saver.
Here they generally don't do a scan until the anatomy scan unless they have reason (unknown dates, suspicion of multiples, complications, etc) so I'm unlikely to have a scan for quite a while. I may try to sweet talk the NP at my GP's office into sending me for an early one though. I just want to know we've got a little heartbeat in there. Last time I had no issues waiting until 11ish weeks to hear on a Doppler but I'm having a hard time this time.
I like those early scans because they measure the baby and make sure it's nothing scary like an ectopic...or *gasp* multiples! lol. What are the indication of multiples anyway? I'd think it would be hard to guess that.
Y'all have great healthcare, though, so we Americans are jealous for sure!
Hcg beta levels that are very high and rise very quickly, much more severe morning sickness.
I knew it was two. Unless the second sac we saw grows a baby (with the size discrepancy, it's pretty unlikely) I had a vanishing twin. I've carried 6 babies, and I just felt very different.
I finally have my first appointment scheduled for next Tuesday! I'll be 12w1d then! (I feel like a ddc crasher, but this baby has like a 92% chance of being a November baby based on the history of my other six kids)
I forgot to mention that I'm going with the midwife I had with baby #6. She's fabulous and lives just two blocks away (which is good!)! I'm planning on another home waterbirth!
I had an appointment at the free center today. It went pretty well, got the number for a clinic that has OB/GYN and works on sliding scale fees. Worth a try. They did a urine test and said I was 7 weeks 5 days. Is that based on hCG? That is new to me! Hopefully that is a good indication this is just one baby. My dad is a twin and I'm terrified of them. I've applied for nursing school in the fall, I could handle one baby, but not two!
I had my first appointment with an NHS midwife when I was 7 weeks (I'm now 9 weeks). I didn't really like her or how she was with me. I baffle every medical person because I am declining scans and want a home waterbirth with no intervention. I am interviewing an independent midwife next week. So, fingers crossed that goes well.
I haven't had a scan in my last four pregnancies. And homebirth with the last three and a waterbirth with the sixth. I actually might get a scan with this one, but that's a separate decision I've made after doing a lot of deep searching within myself.
