My dd was 9 lbs at birth. I'm wondering if I should expect this baby to be even bigger? Are subsequent babies always bigger or is it just random? I need to order some new diapers and I can't decide how small to go!

Nope. After my second mine got progressively smaller. My first has different genes than his siblings so I don't think his statistics count =)

I believe they're usually at least as big, but not always. DS(#1) was almost 9 lbs. For this one I'm going with size small stuff for 10+ lbs and expect to keep babe in sposies for 2-4 weeks to start with unless we get a real giant of a newborn. No point buying tiny things that will last less than a month, I feel.

Mine kept (keep?) getting smaller; though they also keep coming earlier, so thats probably no help!
DS1 - 43? wks, 10#6oz
DS2 - 42wks, 10#2oz
DD - 39 wks, 8#13oz

I would probably assume next baby will be similar size. You could invest in some preemie prefolds (not real expensive and they work great as doublers when they're outgrown as prefolds) to use for the early days in case the smalls don't fit. They'd also fit a smaller baby (I've used them on a 5 lb baby and a 7 lb baby, and they fit both well), in case you do go smaller.

Seems like a lot of people do get progressively bigger babies, but I've seen it go the other way enough times that I wouldn't put money on it.

No. Both of my boys were early so that's not a good comparison but all my girls were born around their due dates.

NOT my experience.

#1 (ds) 9 lb 1 oz, 22 3/4"
#2 (dd) 6 lb 2 oz, 19 1/2"

Both of my babies were full term. The only difference to account for their drastic weight discrepancy *might* be the amount of weight I gained with each one. During my first pregnancy, I gained 55+ pounds, whereas I only gained 36 the second time. My own drs said, at the time, that my weight gain was irrelevant to their sizes, especially because I did not have diabetes the time I gained a lot. However, since then, studies have shown links betw. maternal weight gain and size of baby at birth...

I am SO curious to see how big #3 will be. I'm thinking an average 7.5 pounder would be nice for a change...

dd1- 9lb 5oz
dd2- 9lb even

In terms of dipes... the two girls were more or less the same size at birth but by 6mo dd1 was 20lbs and wearing 1yo clothing. On the other hand, dd2 is now 17mo and just barely 22lbs, also wearing 1yo clothing. We totally didn't expect this, but items dd1 outgrew in a few weeks have been used by dd2 for months. So birth weight/size may not have much impact on the sizes of clothing that will work the best.

Mine have been pretty consistent, besides my first.

#1 - 7 lbs
#2 - 8.5 lbs
#3 - 9 lbs
#4 - 9 lbs
#5 - 8 lbs 3 oz
#6 - 8.5 lbs
#7 - 9 lbs

They were all in nb size diapers for the first 6 weeks but after that their individual growth rate kicked in and some grew quicker than others. #3 and #6 grew very slowly. They were in mediums till they were 2. #3 and #4 are the same size now even though they are 2 years apart.

Expecting #9.  Always busy hsing.

Kairi was 8lbs, 9 oz. I was average size (6lbs 3 oz), and according to MIL DH weighed almost 9lbs.

So, I don't know if that was a contributing factor, or if it was because I had gestational diabetes and constantly cheated on my diet. I have it this time around, but I've been much better about my diet -- and my personal weight gain is on track for gaining the same 33lbs that I did during my last pregnancy.

First baby a boy 10lbs 4 oz 24 inches
Second baby a girl 8 lbs 21 inches
Baby boy lost almost zero weight never fit in newborn dipes or clothes, baby girl dropped down to just above 7 pounds, fit in newborn diapers for a loooong time.

#2 - 10lbs, 41w
#3 - 9lbs 14oz, 39w

I guess #3 would have been bigger than #2 if she "baked" as long...

ETA: All three were between 21 and 22 inches.

So fairly similar for mine...I'm guessing this next LO will be pretty similar.

My girls were about the same but my boy was a big boy.

DD1- 8lbs. 3oz. 20 1/4" 40 weeks 3 days...gained 38lbs.
DD2- 7lbs. 12oz. 20 1/4" about 39 weeks...gained 56lbs.
DS- 10lbs. 23" 41 weeks...gained 54lbs....I bought KL0's and orange edge GMD pf's and he was too big for them! We were all expecting only a 9lber.

I think my boy was genetics...my oldest bro. was the same size at birth and so was I. But I also went crazy with the dairy with ds and I drank lots of organic fresh(I juiced it myself) vegetable juice which had lots of carrots in it, which are high in sugar. For me it had nothing to do with weight gain.
