Ok I'm 37 weeks and went into the hospital last night with some strong contracts and just plain pain!: The contractions settled and they sent me home.

I am just in so much pain and I know this is a big baby I'm afraid she/he will be to big to have naturally. I also think I'm at least a week further ahead then the doctors think making it really 38 weeks if not 39. I just have that feeling.

So I was wondering if there were any safe natural ways that might help me going into labor and stay there. I've been told sex(not likely to happen much I'm in so much pain), pineapple and I think it was cranberry tea?

Red raspberry leaf tea is great to help contractions keep going, however, (in my experience), they won't start them. Sex is great if you can get it... self-lovin' is good if you can get a big O on your own, because that produces contractions and also oxytocin.

Walking is a great way to keep it going, too. Walk walk walk! This is how we got DD to come out... walked the mall and drug store until I literally had to stop and whine through each ctx. Also bouncing on a birth ball, rocking on your hands and knees (baby's head hits the cervix as you rock, stimulating it.). Old wives tales say that when women wanted to go into labor, they would get down on hands and knees and scrub their floors.

Nipple stimulation has been suggested, but there is the possibility that you can 'over stimulate' and make yourself have very hard ctx. I'd talk to your midwife/OB before you try it.

The pineapple thing is true, but you'd have to eat a LOT of it for it to really do any good. I mean, I guess any little bit helps, but we're talking about 20 fresh pineapples to get a good 'dose' of the chemical. Same thing with romaine lettuce. But hey, if you like that stuff, chow down!

And . I'm in practically the same exact situation you're in... including the pain and I just hit week 38. I've noticed that doing housework seems to make things start moving down there... and sitting on the birth ball, rocking. Good luck!

They say if the body is ready, that castor oil will work. It comes with some intestinal cramping, though. Worked for me; just as the intestinal stuff was easing, the contractions came on. 2 oz in juice or a chocolate milkshake.

Acupuncture is a more gentle way, perhaps.

If you're going to try to go into labor, I agree that it would help to increase your Red Raspberry leaf tea intake, to help it go well once labor starts...
