I'm throwing a blessingway for my BFF. What should I include? She's due February 18th, I'm due in April so I want to get as much planning done ahead of time while I still have the energy.

Thanks in advance.

we had a baby blessing for dd. everyone who attended did part of a henna design on my belly and i asked them to send their love and positive thoughts to the baby as they did it.

i also got some embroidery thread and tied a piece around everyone's wrist. we asked them not to take it off until they received word that the baby had arrived. the thread was to serve as a reminder of the baby's impending arrival, and anytime they touched or saw the thread, they could think good thoughts abou the birth or send love to the baby. i felt like it was important that i was the one tying the thread onto the guests, as the thread retained mine and the baby's energy. what is really cool about that was that mine and dh's parents' strings fell off the day i was in labor, and we hadn't called to tell them about my being in labor until after dd was born, but all of them mentioned the string falling off that day when we did finally call.

the other thing i know is done sometimes but we didn't do is to ask each person to bring a bead that is signifigant to them, and the beads would be strung into a necklace for the mother to wear while birthing her baby. as the beads were strung up at the baby blessing, each person explains to the mother what the signifigance of their bead is. it can be a bead they wore while birthing, it could be a bead that they just picked up at the store b/c it made them think of the mom, you know, whatever they think is special about it.

yeah that to all of the above. We did the string thing a bit different. We used blue and pink (didn't know what baby was) and kept the string really long and as we all sat in a circle the balls of string were passed from one person to the next and each person would wrap it around their wrist and tie (with or without help) so at the end we were all connected and I think someone said something special and then we cut the strings.

in addition to the bead, everyone brought a special Talisman or special item to set up on an altar during the birth to bring power (or whatever) to the birthing woman--I did have one item that was loaned to me, but asked to be returned, lol. They each came with a story.

Lets see, I got a foot bath, they brushed my hair (which sounds weird, but I really enjoyed it)--basically spent the afternoon pampering me. They played music and one lady did something with bringing in the four direction and used incense and smudged everyone.

I had two blessingways --one for each baby, but they were actually quite different, but both wonderful.

have fun!

We did the above things too at my mothers blessing. Also my sister gave all of the women candles. When labor got going she started a phone chain. The women all lit thier candles to keep me and the baby in thier thoughts. I remember laboring and focusing my thoughts on the points of light in all the homes of the women who loved.
