My first child was 4 days overdue before my then-OB induced me, which ended up in a failed induction and C-section. This time I am planning a HBAC and am determined to not let the same thing happen again. I am now 41 weeks and 2 (almost 3!) days past due and baby is not showing any signs of coming. : My MW said she will sweep my membranes on Monday to try to get things going... didn't want to do that, but my doula says since I'll be almost 42 weeks it should be fine.

So I am reading articles online about overdue pregnancies (I should remember to stay away from Google during moments like this!) and some of them said that a reason for being overdue can be due to malformations in the baby, which scares me! Have any of you gone overdue and baby was totally normal and fine???? I really need to hear some positive overdue stories! I do think my baby is posterior right now and think maybe positioning could have something to do with it? My son was also posterior.

My first was 12 days overdue. It's really so normal. I've never, ever heard that being overdue could mean malformations and have never once seen that really the case. I've heard that malformations could cause you to be premature, but never overdue. Why do they even have to say that stuff? All it does is put fear in mothers to be. :

My beautiful, perfect daughter was born at 41 weeks + 6 days, the day before our scheduled induction. I've heard plenty of normal, happy, healthy vaginal birth stories of "overdue" moms. Don't forget, your due date isn't a date set in stone, it's just an estimate. The normal range is anywhere from 38-42 weeks, so technically I'd try to not even think of yourself as overdue!

And stop googling! Ha ha ha, I'm totally guilty of the same thing. I'm 21 weeks and had my ultrasound and was told I had partial placenta previa. I googled myself into a panic, convincing myself I'd have to go on bedrest for weeks and weeks and have to have a c-section. It took a few friends to talk me back down again.

Your baby will come! If it gets to the point where your midwife is making suggestions to get things moving, I'd start thinking about them. I think that most midwives will only do home births up to 42 or 43 weeks? I'm not sure about that, but if it comes down to the choice of having her strip your membranes or other minor (home) interventions, or ending up in the hospital on pitocin, I'd do whatever I could to try for the home birth!

Good luck!

I went exactly 9 days over and everything went fine. She was very healthy so I wouldn't worry! They stripped my membranes too...but it didn't actually speed me up.

Well it is true. But the vast majority of women who go post dates have very healthy babies. Since the OP already went over due once and is again its likely its normal for her and not a problem with the baby.

I have had 7 post dates babies. All were healthy and fine.

My mother tells me I was about 13 days overdue and no problems there. I've read that up to two weeks overdue is normal...best to you!

I went to 45 (no, that's not a typo) weeks with my dd. She was prfect and fine and happy and healthy, and totally creeped the nursing staff out by having a great deal of head control when she was born.

With my son I was induced at 38 weeks, he was about as developed as a 34 weeker, dropped almost 20% of his 6lb birthweight, was jaundicd for a couple months, was still covered with lanugo, and was generally very much half-baked. I was induced due to complications with the pregnancy, but he should have been more mature than he was. Apparently my kids take more than 40 weeks to finish.

I'll probably have to be induced his time as well, but at least I will be emotionally prepared for a preemie, as opposed to expecting a baby that is, by arbitrary dates, full term.

I second the rec for spinning babies and a chiro... but would also suggest seeing an acupuncturist.

Dd was 8 days "late" and still squishy with vernix. One of my nieces was 3 weeks late and perfectly fine. Some of us just cook our babies for a little longer.... it's not like the EDD is a turkey timer and we are "done" just 'cause it pops out.

My family: me jog.gif, dh geek.gif, ds reading.gif (11), dd1 hearts.gif (9), and dd2 energy.gif(3).

Tout va s'arranger à la fin. Si elle ne fonctionne pas; ce n'est pas la fin.

remember that babies are not "over due" until 42 weeks, until then they are well in the range of average. Poppy was 42+1 no problems, she was baked to perfection

dd was 11 days overdue. No big deal. I think that all the freak you out literature refers to babies over 42 weeks b/c most docs won't let you go past that marker.

Ds was 43 weeks 5 days. Yes, I'm sure of my dates.

He was MUCH more newborn-y than my dd who was 41 weeks 2 days. He would have had serious problems if kicked out 4 weeks "early" for him.

My DD was born 17 days past her due date. I guess you do have to remember that it's a window of 38-42 weeks like a PP said, and also, that most first pregnancies (is this your first?) go an average of 8 days past the due date. I remember reading a study that said that.

My mom was 10 days late with me and I was just fine In fact, I was 7lbs 4oz, not even that big! My sister was born 5 days late and was 6lbs 14oz. I expect my baby to go late... though I'm hoping not!

Good luck mama!
