I want an opinion on my girl names choices. For some reason I am having trouble pinning down a girl name I really like this time around. I guess I have just gotten used to choosing boys names.

I voted for the first one, and then read your siggy and noticed your son is Caden- and I think they are way too similar. I don't like Maeva at all. I think Maeve is better, but I am still not crazy about the way it sounds.

Yes, the first choice is too close to your son's name. The second choice has not a chance in Hades of being pronounced or spelled correctly. Try again, mom.

I voted Maeva. I like it & would know how to pronounce it. I agree that Caelyn is waay too close to Caden to use.

Agreed that Caelyn is way too close to your son's name and Maeva is too difficult.

How about Maeve? I think it's a really cool name; classic but not common.

Maeva and Caelyn both confuse my eyes for some reason. For me, personally, I would steer away from names that require a pronounciation guide.

Also, I love Iris and Opal! Very cool & pretty choices.

ME-VA in Farsi means fruit

But you probably don't have to worry about stuff like that. Us on the other hand have to check and double check names in various languages to make sure it works internationally.
Like I Really like the name HUR - but pronounced in english its not so cool...

I also think the other name is too close to your son's name. But I like Iris.

I like Maeva, I LOVE Iris and Opal! My new babe will likely be Opal if it seems like it suits her when she comes out... Iris would also be at the top of my list if our last name didn'[t end in an S.

I admit I'm worried about Caelyn and Caden being too close. I can live with it though. Maeva is pretty to me, but a little boring. Kara was my first name choice but it has become so popular. I like names that end in 'a' (think flowing, melodic and feminine) and I like C and K names. Iris is to honor a friend that died, I could never use it for a first name though, it would just be too much. Opal is ok for a middle name but I don't like it that much.

I like Kara, and it doesn't seem to be all that popular. It was ranked #289 in 2007 and is going down in popularity.

Okay, I'll buck the trend and say that I don't think it is a big deal that Caelyn and Caden sound alike. I like the way it flows: Kai, Caden, Caelyn... But I am still in the throws of my own name/postpartum crazy (see post: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...php?p=13377876) so I don't know how much help I really can be. I totally understand the new girl name thing, we never gave it as much consideration before. I also strive for someting "melodic and feminine" since she may be our only girl.. Maeva is not one I have heard before so it is unique, but I like the kids being similar. There is a consistency of style and image to it. Antway at least you have some more time....

I agree. And if you go with the first name I'd spell it like Kaylin instead.

I also like the name Opal.

I voted fo Maeva. I can't imagine that anyone would pronounce it wrong.

Caden and Caelyn are such unisex names. In fact I know a Cailan thats a boy. Although to me, at first it sounded like a girl name.
