Where can I find one? I'm trying to avoid top baby names and would like to know what's on there. Thanks!

Partnered mama with DD (01/04) and DD (08/09) and 8 critters, including a !

I believe they usually update it around May, so just keep an eye on it.

I'd just wait for the May update of that list if you want the national averages- and to be honest, the top 20 names don't change that much from one year to the next- most of the times names move up and then back down, rarely do they come from no-where to be high on the list.

Most other websites I've come across either have old data, or they have based their "popularity" on poles that those that visit the site do- so if all the hippies are visiting that site, a name can look popluar because of the crowd going ot said site.

i like www.babynamewizard.com for info on how popular names have been in the past and about what they currently are.

There's also behindthename.com where you put in the name you want and it will give you the popularity info.

http://www.thinkbabynames.com/ is another site that gives you popularity info for all their names, both for the US and for other countries. Their lists for the US go through the top thousand names, separately for boys and girls, so you might peek at the top 100 or so from 2007 and figure that anything that was on an upward trend already (marked by a green +) has probably only gotten more popular. They also have the top 100 names from other countries, which I enjoy looking at.

Cloud, mommy to her happy little Nimbus, born 11/09!

Thank you for this. On ALL of my girl names, we thought we were using something that was relatively uncommon and then BOOM, ever other girl is named something similar. My son is the one exception and I'm afraid the names we've chosen this time are popular as well...Being a Jennifer and a James (he goes by Bill, mn William) we'd like to use something not necessarily unusual (like Abcde or Lemanjello) but something to make our kid feel a bit more unique.

Jen-loving Bill, mama to Teryn 18, Kalyn 16, Ricky 13, Natalie 5, Angel Zoe '07 and rainbow1284.gifAmelia Rae 22 mos bonus kids (dss) W 14, W 13 NEW grandbaby due 10/10/11

This is my favourite site - http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com - along with popularity it gives you feeback from people who actually have the name you're considering. We choose unusual names and I've found them included here more than any other site I've come across.

Happy Momma , sharing life with my of a DH, DS Rumi (Aug '06) and DD Leela (July '09)
