Has anyone else gone weird about food since being pregnant?
I am 12 weeks (I have my first scan this week and am very excited!) and I have "gone off" the idea of evening meals. I eat a good breakfast (toast, glass of milk and full fat yoghurt OR cerial, fruit salad and yoghurt), I have a piece of fruit mid-morning and a large cheese and salad wholemeal roll and a little orange for lunch. I usually have a biscuit mid-afternoon. I am trying to drink plenty of water (I don't want hot drinks AT ALL) aswell. When it comes to the evening meal I am sort of hungry but I don't really "fancy" anything. Even the thought of the meal itself and the thought of cooking it makes me feel a bit unwell. TBH all I really feel like is more toast. I have been cooking and forcing myself to eat it though... I would feel sorry for my boyfriend if he just came home to toast and more importantly what about baby??? Anyone else ever feel like this or is it just me? Maybe I need to concentrate on cooking lighter meals/reducing portion sizes that I can pick at... At the moment it is veggie lasagne etc. which felt like it was weighing heavily on my tummy last night when I had trouble sleeping.
Any thoughts?
P.S: I hate the thought of chocolate too, how weird is that??? :
TIA!

i'm totally with you. pretty much anything with sauce is not appealing to me. it's not so much of a nausea thing - i'm just not interested. here's what i eat pretty much every day: low fat yogurt (multiple times), berries, granola, salad, apple, cheese, luna bar, broccoli...you get the idea. room temperature or cold is best. i've never really been a picky eater, but i guess this little peanut is. luckily, i have a female partner and we share the food prep responsibilities so if i don't feel like i can make dinner she picks up the slack. although she might be getting bored with what i'm making on the night it's my turn!

I haven't changed *when* I eat... but for a while I all but became a vegetarian. The thought of eating meat of *any* sort was just awful... 5 months later I'm now back to eating chicken & fish, mostly. Although it still grosses me out sometimes depending on how its cooked/prepared/whether I have to smell it cooking or not... But the thought of red meat (goat, lamb, beef, deer, pork), just really grosses me out.

that definitely hasn't changed for me. loved chocolate before and love it now.

In the first trimester I wasn't eating so well. I gave up salads for about 12 weeks and those were on my menu atleast once per day pre-pregnancy, usually twice per day. I started eating them again once I got in to the 2nd trim.

I haven't had any unusual cravings or any cravings at all really. I did want barbeque chicken during the first trimester but that's it.

At 12 weeks, all I could really sustain myself with was plain baked potato and mandarin oranges because I was so morning sick (which lasted all day). If I did manage to eat anything for dinner, I usually barfed it right back up. The fact that you can't really make it to dinner doesn't seem that uncommon. Your appetite will mostly likely pick back up again in the second trimester

Who DOESN'T get a little 'weird' about food when they are pregnant?

The first 12 weeks all I wanted was toast (white bread, with butter or jam), strawberries, ceral, pancakes plain or french fries. I could not eat anything green to save my life (salads, any sort of veggies).

I am glad to report though at 15 weeks I am eating pretty normally again.

That's really common. Green stuff is hard to digest (and really gross to vomit). Many people have aversions to stuff like that when they're sick. Simple carbs are easier to digest. Your body has a way of knowing what you can handle, I firmly believe that.

you're normal! Most of the time, NOTHING really sounds good to me. I try to cook for DH & DD at night, but I might change my mind 10 times about what to fix, since what sounded ok 5 minutes ago sounds nasty now... It doesn't help that I feel more nauseated toward evening, either.
The only thing I ever really feel like is veggies and fruit and LOTS of water.

It'll go away eventually!

I don't have it consistently like that, but yeah there are plenty of times when all I want is an Asiago Bagel or some Cinnamon Pop Tarts instead of something better for me, I also just want soup all the time now too instead of full meals. And I can't eat lots of food at once anymore, I have to eat a little here, then a little more in 2 hours, etc.

So yeah, I would try something lighter or at least smaller portions and snack some a couple hours before and after.

I still don't have the appetite I did when pg with DD, I have to kinda force myself to eat. I am 24 weeks and was a vegetarian for the first 10 weeks of pregnancy, and I normally am a steak eating girl. I have gained 5 lbs so far, which compared to last time is nothing. With DD I wanted fat, fat and oh a little more fat......This time I'm just sort of Eh-take it or leave it. I make dinner again, but my choices are lighter and lots of veggies, grilled light meats and some more veggies. I love salad, and bread too-garlic bread has been one of my favorite things.

This pregnancy has been so different.

This is me exactly! I'm 12 weeks, and I eat fine during the day, but at dinner, all I want is like toast, cereal, or my biggest craving right now...Spaghetti-O's!

Thank you all so much for your replies! I am glad it is quite "normal" and I really hope my appetite returns soon. I have taking to grazing more during the day so if I feel hungry for something I just go for it while I actually "want" something, rather than forcing myself to eat at prescribed meal times. We will see how it goes.
Chanelle, I was just wandering when your baby is due?
Anyway, thanks everyone!
