I think I've heard that boy babies tend to weigh more at birth than girl babies do, doesn't anyone know if it's true? My DS2 was 8 lb 7 oz and I'm just wondering what the likelihood is this one will be bigger (I'm having girl this time).

I wouldn't count on it.

My sister's second child, a girl, weighed almost a pound more than her first, a boy. It is possible that statistically it is more likely, but it seems like anything can happen.

Well, 50th percentile for a female newborn is 7lbs 8oz, and for a male is 7lbs 12.5oz. So, yes, on average males weigh more than females by a few ounces. However, that is just an average, and individual weights vary wildly.

My son was about 1lb bigger than my girls. I was sure that my girls would be bigger because I had always heard that each baby is usually a little bigger, but not mine!

DS was 6 lbs 12 oz and 21 1/4 in length (born close to EDD but never knew what the actual EDD was w/son)

DD was 6 lbs 11 oz and 21 1/2 in length (born two weeks early)

My DD weighed a teeny bit less but she was longer than her brother was at birth.

For me it was true but purely genetics...

DD1 - 8+lbs. 40+3 weeks
DD2 - almost 8lbs. about 38-39 weeks
DS - 10+lbs. about 41 weeks

BUT my bro. (#1) was 10+lbs. and bro (#2) was 9+lbs. and my aunt had 2 boys both almost 10lbs....and I was 10+lbs. myself. All of us being born somewhere after our dd.

It all has to do with genetics and your diet. IMO When my mom had my bro. (#2) her dr. had put her on a "diet" because of my bro (#1) being so big and he ended up being almost a 1lb. lighter.

I heard from my old DO that the baby will generally fall somewhere between the parents' birth weights, plus a little.
It's been true for mine with the exception of the one born at 37 weeks, who still had 3 weeks to go.
A lot of moms I know tell me that their boys were bigger, but say it was just based on dietary preference and having less morning sickness with their boys. Who knows!

Yes, boys on average are slightly bigger than boys but it also depends on birth order and other factors as subsequent babies are, on average, bigger than their older siblings.

I had a girl first and she was 6lb 9 oz.
My next was a boy and he was 9 lb 5 oz. he was 3 days earlier than her.

Almost 3 pounds bigger!

That said, i am expecting another boy and my midwife says she thinks he is about 8.5 lbs.
But they told me DS was going to be about 7.5 lbs, LOL!

Me (42), DH (41), DD (7), DS1 (5) and DS2 Aug 02/09

My son and my brother were the smallest. My sister, myself, and two of my daughters were all over 9lbs. My mom was a preemie so I am guessing she was smaller than her brother. My MIL grew all her babies small, like around 5 lbs, but I am not sure their exact weights.
