it's a new month! how did it get to be october already?

wondering where cbhowell and onelittleone are. are you still waiting for your little girl and boy to arrive or are you so busy with your wee ones that you haven't time to post? hope to hear from you soon.

boobs4milk, Masel, pookietooth and ZoraP -- your due dates are fast approaching (alreday here for you Masel). how are you all feeling? looking forward to some updates.

dd is insisting we go for a walk, so i'll post more later. i had my second dr's appt today and it left me...well it left me with a bunch of different feelings (way too many to post right now). hope everyone's october is off to a wonderful start!

popping over to sub and say - man, I'm exhausted.... Only 6 weeks tomorrow, and I feel like it's hit me like a ton of bricks this past week - - but maybe it's that cold that's crept up on me. Ugh.

Happy October!

QUOTE by >>>PEACE+HOPE:

questions for you all:
with home midwives/no US technology, anyone know when twins might be detected? i'm guessing fundal height would be ahead, and they'd start searching for 2 heartbeats.

another one: was reading (in a book, conception to birth) that at 12 weeks, you can pick up fetal heartrate often with a stethoscope??? but my MW said the fetoscope won't work til usually 20 weeks.... i don't even know what a fetoscope is . anyway, anybody have insight on this?

I have heard quite a bit about twins... meaning everything has been conflicting! haha! Yes, fundal height and no on fundal height, etc. Are you using a midwife but don't want to get an ultrasound? Or you just don't have access to one? I'm getting one but have to find one on my own.

And I don't have insight to all the 'scopes' but I have been reading several mamas saying their midwife or OB couldn't always find the heartbeat at 12 weeks... that's all I know...

AND HAPPY OCTOBER BACKATCHA!!!!!!!

yay, samstress - thank you! please do let us know what your appointment brought up... sounds heavy.

and happy october! i am SOOO relaxed in cool weather. my absolute favorite time of year is fall. have i told you all that i planned TTC so that i could be pregant in cool months and deliver in spring? what can i say, it worked, and i'm very happy about that.

abigailgrace, thanks for clarifying the twin thing...NOT, heehee . can't wait to see if anyone else has info on this topic. i AM avoiding U/S unless some indication of medical necessity becomes apparent. my husband still thinks he may want on near the birth, but we're going to continue to talk to our midwives about it.

me+him for 15 yrs, welcomed our little one march 25th, 2010.

Here's my update -- can't believe it's actually October, and only one week from my EDD! Feeling fine, other than large, heavy, and slow. My prenatal appointments are all textbook; no issues, no problems. In fact, this pg has gone better than my first two did, in terms of my own health. I became anemic toward the end of both the others, but this time I'm still in good shape. Not sure what the difference is, but I'm not complaining.

We're all looking forward to meeting our new little one when she decides to make her appearance. I'm feeling much more patient about that than I did the first two times, too. I buess age does help mellow us out some. Or maybe it's just that I'm so distracted by the activities I have with an active family that I don't dwell on it this time.

I will be 40 when I deliver.... Not much happening except I am so very tired and facing homeschooling again. I have so much to consider that I want to nap just thinking about it.

I did find a great midwife that will a) leave me alone while I labor and birth unless I need her or b) won't be surprised if I call her after I birth to help wiht all that after birth stuff that I know DH won't do happy me!

almost 15 weeks now, time flies!
waiting for those movements to manifest themselves.
still not eating much, and not gaining weight either, but definitely showing
(I am thin to start with).
next m/w appointment in 10 days, I'll be 16+ weeks then.
other than that nothing special, just checking in.....

I love the name Amelia!

And I am 40 and very tired as well! And trying to homeschool, too!

Can't wait until I start nesting... maybe I'll clean house, then!

no problem. i was thinking you might want to start the thread again, but when i got home from work on thursday and noticed there wasn't a new one, i just went ahead and started it.

i will definitely share the details of my appointment when i get a chance. it's going to be quite a vent and i just don't have the time (or energy) right now. my in-laws are coming into town today and i feel like i should be getting ready for that.

i too am due in april and while i didn't necessarily plan it that way, i'm so glad it worked out that way. my dd was born in april as well and it was perfect. not pregnant during the really hot months which would be a total drag here in southern california.

CONGRATS to boobs4milk (wherever you are).

i decided to go poking around to see if any of our other members had their little ones. turns out cbhowell, Masel and onelittleone all did. their birth announcements are listed above.

i know the original post says that those who discontinue posting will be moved to "unconfirmed graduates" 30 days after their due date (perhaps i'll remove that), but i thought it would be nice to see some birth announcements instead. hope that's ok. ???

Why not? I don't know if I could do it because there are so many other great names out there to choose from but I also think it would be cute!

HOW ABOUT ULTRASOUNDS? Anyone find out lately what they are having? I won't find out for another 3 weeks or so. Have to get on the phone, actually, and see where I can get in. I don't have the name of the place I used last time. Gosh, 3 weeks until I know... I'm really trying to stop thinking 'girl' so I'm not disappointed. I sure do love my boys but I REALLY want a girl as my dd is 13! I have started looking at little girl things and I know better! haha!

I am getting baby fever mamas! After being in shock and denial for all this time, it feels good to finally be ready to accept a little one into my arms! I still can hardly believe it because he's not moving a whole lot but baby lust is here!!!!

I have an Amelia Margaret -- I too love the name. I think Amelia is still in the hospital and so Jen is rather busy.

I am not going to find out the gender--at least I don't plan to. My gut is saying girl only because of the heart rate. DAMN those old wives tales!

As for my DD club... wasn't comfortable there so I left, LOL. And I am fairly certain this will be a Feb baby. (Watch me proven WRONG--it will probably be a ten monther at ten lbs )

Abigail & Zona ~ I wasn't sure if I would find out....I did not find out with my other 6 & I did LOVE the surprise when I birthed them.

With this last, seventh baby of mine, I ended up deciding to give myself a treat and find out. I thought FOR SURE I was having a girl. All signs pointed to it - my tremendous sickness, the heart rate, my instincts....all pointed to a last sweet final girl. I was seriously positive I was having a girl.

So, at the ultrasound, I was absolutely floored when the doc told me ....see, look there is his penis & testicles. I literally was speechless!

I had to rethink everything I had been thinking & planning.

Now it is a strange thing indeed to know I have a little son in there....knowing in advance is new for me & although it was a thrill to find out, it's just very odd. One thing that is nice is I can think about names. It always takes me a month or more to find the right name, so perhaps this time around I will find one quicker.

I am due May 16th and I have no idea yet if it's a boy or a girl, although, I feel "boy"

true, there are so many others to choose from. i'm guessing we probably won't go with amelia. we tend to be partial to monosyllabic first names (we've all got 'em). perhaps we'll use amelia again as a middle name (if it's a girl). something the sisters could share. way too early to say.

we definitely will not be finding out the sex. we didn't with our first and we just love surprises. my gut told me "girl" with our first (and it was right). really can't get a read on this one yet.

We will not find out the gender this time around. We did for the first two, but this time I convinced DH to not do it (otherwise I would refuse the 18 week ultrasound, I said!).
We have one of each, so it really does not matter from a practical point of view, either.
It will be so exciting to find out once baby slips out!
DH objects that this way we have to agree on two names, one for each kind. My response....I have chosen a name that works for either...just have to get him on board!

Hi all
Welcome enigo!! There sure is a lot of 40 something's having babies-a good sign I think for those who are TTC.
Definitely not having an ultrasound unless something seems drastically wrong. I haven't had one since I was pregnant with my oldest, in 97/98. Would be too weird now I think. I love the surprise and I wouldn't want to alter that moment when I find out by holding my new baby if it is my son or daughter who has been poking me all those months.
I'm 30 weeks now and baby seems to have flipped head down. I see the doc Monday and hopefully she will have my blood tests back. I am really curious get my Vit D and ferritin results back. Then I will only go in to see her if I have some concern before the birth, or for a newborn check up after the birth.
Still no word from the adjuster about our van. My dh is deployed (of course!), so if it's going to be written off, I will have to find a way to buy and get a new vehicle here while driving a rental with three kids in the back. The nearest Toyota dealership is 1 1/2 hours away, so I will have to ask a friend to go with me and drive back either the rental or the new van. Logistics!!
Good luck ZoraP and congrats to the three new babies and their mamas!!

OOPs age at conception was 39--don't you just love changing my stats?

Darn it Greenlee!!!! Now maybe I will find out...... I am one who waits weeks to name my kids. They are stuck with it the rest of their life, it has to fit and NOTHING is striking me as "perfect" right now. And I have used all my family names that I find acceptable. Names I did love are being used all over the board and I can't use a name I am seeing often. SOOOOO I guess I am stuck in name purgatory again.

Abigail, I think I have decided to take the hs leap again. I just need to get some sleep first. I was up all last night scrubbing soap scub out of the three bathrooms. They sparkle. I finished and celebrated by eating the rest of the tapioca I made and finally "went to bed" at about 6. Lachlann decided to start hair pulling soon after. I was not a very happy waking mommy today. Probably because I was not waking, I was just getting up after cleaning ferverishly. Now I am sore EVERYWHERE!!!!! Who needs exercise!

welcome enigo! so good to see you

I am not feeling any baby movement yet and am anxiously looking forward to it since I lent out my doppler to a very irreponsible teen and she broke it. God forbid she offer to even pay for half of it. She also has ALL my maternity, breast feeding including pumps (2) and new baby stuff. She has convienently moved so I have no idea where the thief is. Working on letting go ...... I just wish I could get the cradle my grandmother gave me back. If I could find her I would have the police escort me just to get that. The rest is replaceable. Vent over

I'm still around. We did find out at our 20 week ultrasound. It's a girl! My 4 year old DD is thrilled, and DS is excited too. Not sure what we will name her yet. I am at 23 weeks now and feeling more movement, especially after I eat or drink something.

I'd love another girl! I can't wait to find out - I'm hoping it'll get me more excited about the pregnancy, too. my dh and I are fighting too much for me to be excited about much of anything.

In other news - does anyone have reflux issues? I've had for ages, but am not the best with going to doctors, so I never did anything about it (other than whine, that is)... I'm not sure if I feel so horrible because of m/s or because of reflux! Ugh, any advice on what to do is welcome. I used to just pop tums or whatever, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that now.

I have gerd and am just taking zantac for now. If it gets worse Iw ill question the Dr tomorrow about something stronger--if there is anything. I just avoid eating too mcuh at once and lying down after eating

I'm not comfortable either but thought maybe it's just because this is my first DDC...

I know this may sound aweful but since my last 4 are boys, I NEED to know if this is another boy. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my boys! But I do feel there might be a tinge of disappointment at first if it's not a girl like I think it is.

Oh girl, I so sympathize! I hope things go smoothly...

Congrats on the hsing! Although I know it's a huge decision!! Btw, could you rub off on me? I am SO lazy right now! I cleaned our tub the other day and then I was like "tah-duh!" Pat me on the back someone so I can go sit down! haha! I think it's just because we won't be in this house much longer and I'm getting antsy to move. Ugh!

Vent over
I'm so, so sorry about the cradle. Yeah, I am starting over with everything and it's no big deal. But the cradle? That hurts...

My dh takes papaya enzymes and DGL... he says it works wonders! Just get the coffee flavored DGL, not the licorice! Ugh, I hate licorice!! Bleh! (and sorry about you and dh right now...)

On a personal note: We still haven't told family... and I haven't been able to tell my oldest daughter. (who's married and has had 7 m/c, for those who didn't see my earlier post) At 17 weeks already, I'm really stressing on how/when to tell her. She's in another state so face-to-face is out of the question. Any suggestions? (And I'm not married to her dad so it's not that simple where I think she'd be ok) Really struggling and thinking of writing her a letter... would you be upset if you got a letter instead of a phone call? I just feel like I can explain better...

Thanks for the reflux advice - - I may actually have zantac somewhere in the closet - I bought it a while back but am terrible about taking meds on a regular basis. (prenatals a case in point - I'm trying my very best, but usually only remember every other day!!! ugh) And good advice about small portions - I usually do have a tendency to just gorge.

AbigailGrace - sorry, but um, what's DGL?? And where do I get papaya enzymes???? is that better/as good as zantac? I'd love to do something more natural - - since hey, I'll miss taking it about half the time, anyway.
It sounds like a real dilemma about telling your dd. I'd definitely do it ASAP though, if you're already 17 weeks. I think it's better to call - but you know your dd best and if you think a letter will make it easier for her, go for it.

Totally with those who must find out the gender before birth - I had two boys before my dd, and while I adore them, I did have a twinge about not having a girl for a few minutes. And better those twinges before birth, for me! Not into the surprise thing if it can be avoided. Of course, nothing is 100% - my brother and his wife were told they were having a boy and had a girl. Three times.

Hi all
Abigailgrace, I understand why you feel strange about telling your oldest DD. I think the sooner the better though, however you decide to do it. Let us know how it goes.
I have no experience(thankfully!) with reflux so I can't off any advice to those who are suffering, just hope that you feel better soon.
Well this pregnancy seems determined to offer some drama. I had a doc's appt today and all was well with my checkup, just got my ferritin back and it is low, so I must make a greater effort to boost my iron stores. [B]Then[B] I get home after running some errands, have supper, talk on SKYPE to Dh and while on a bathroom break I notice I'm spotting. WTF? I told the doc about my car accident and that all seemed fine except for soreness and that I'd had no bleeding and then five hours after my appt. I start spotting. Now of course I have to go back in and probably have an ultrasound to rule out placenta previa or a partial abruption. Our town lost it's ultrasound technician so now all those needing one have to make the three hour drive to the nearest big city. Such a pain in the butt. Will update you all when I hear something more.
As for housecleaning, I decided recently that I have lots on my plate and that now is the time to delegate what can be delegated, so I hired a housecleaner to come once a week. I still have to vacuum every second day or so, but I leave the bathrooms, dusting and mopping to her. It's been a good thing. If you can swing it financially, go for it!

Both the DGL and Papaya Enzymes are natural and can be bought online or at a natural health food store. You might try calling around. DGL is actually licorice root and helps with stomach acid. I tried looking it up this morning to explain but couldn't find a good explanation of it. (I'm barely awake... haha!) It also repairs the cells of the stomach lining. The enzymes are there to help break down your food faster. That's why it helps. And both of them are pretty inexpensive. I'm not great at explaining it but dh has always kept the DGL on hand. You can take enzymes also in place of Tums. It's better for you. HTH a little.

Btw, Gon2be... so sorry. I'm sure it's nothing but the wait is a pain in the hiney. Take it easy. And congrats on the housekeeper! I used to have one and it was great!

AbigailGrace, thank you! I will research the whole thing and get some stuff -- hopefully tonight after work, because I feel so horrible. It's just SO painful waking up to this every morning...

Welcome Andante!

And good luck, Gon2be, with the u/s. I'm totally jealous of the housecleaner. I need more than a housecleaner - I need a laundry folder! My ds did about 3 loads yesterday and it's currently all over my bed and the floor. Ugh, my house is horribly messy. I wish I had the energy... sigh.

Gon2be, sorry you are spotting. But, hopefully it is nothing of import and will resolve itself quickly.

AbigailGrace, isn't Licorice root on the "no-no" list for when pg? Perhaps I am remembering wrong. Maybe it is just on the "no-no" list for b/p issues. I will have to check it out.

Well, today is so tiring for me. Actually it is the nights. My littles have been sick and not sleeping at night. I thought we were just about through it all, but last night my baby's fever went up and so, here we go again!

So much fun!

Oh my goodness... I didn't even think of that! I'm so sorry! I don't have a need to take DGL so I wasn't thinking. Ugh! I do know the enzymes are safe, though! Thanks for catching this.

My kids were sick for a couple of weeks, too, and we are NEVER sick! So I can empathize! And I hate fever! Praying the fever breaks for good today!!!
