Anyone been told they had extra amniotic fluid in their 3rd trimester and known the cause or what it means (if anything)...

I have had extra amniotic fluid with all of my three babies. No gestational diabetes, no defects with baby, just extra fluid. With this pregnancy, my fluid level was normal at the 24 week scan a few weeks ago but I expect it will exceed normal limits at the next scan at 28 weeks. My mw says its "idiopathic polyhydramnios." I hope all is well with you too!

Its weird, I had an NT scan which was extremely good, my 21 week antonmy scan was all fine but last week at my 30 week check up my OB said I had 'extra fluid'... of course, I didn't ask for specifics/numbers just went deer in headlights instead. . .

The same thing happened to me with DS2. I don't know if it happened with DS1 because I only had the 20 week, and was scheduled for another one at 36 weeks but he came at exactly 36 weeks.

I just had my 20 week and everything measures fine with this baby. I hope I don't have it again because my last dr. scared the crap out of me last time.

My new dr said that in 60% of cases they don't know what causes it.

Well, I was polyhydramnios with my daughter, but it was because she had anencephaly. Since your anatomy scan was fine (and it would've picked up any ntd) my guess is that its idiopathic.

Is your fundus measuring really big for dates? If not, then it's possible it was an incorrect diagnosis. Sounds like he's not too worried about it anyway, so you probably don't need to be either.

I had extra fluid with my second. My dr. said that the fact that my ds was over 9lbs added to extra fluid.

my DS has always been measuring 'big' by EU standards for his ges. age, so its possible that is contributing to it. . . Odd since my OB seemed to think size wasn't a factor in/effecting fluid.. hmmm..
