Can you share your positive pregnancy affirmations, if you have any? I'm having a hard time being optimistic, and I keep worrying about worst case scenarios and things that can go wrong.

I want to think positive instead of paranoid! I just need something to recite to myself when I become overwhelmed or apprehensive.

I completely understand where you're coming from. I woke up this morning and my breasts were slightly less sore than yesterday, and I immediately started to worry.

I try to tell myself that I'm not in control here. I don't know if I believe in a higher power, but regardless, I do know that what I can do to control the outcome of this pregnancy -- eating right, sleeping, etc. -- is finite. As someone who wants to control everything, acknowledging that ultimately the stickiness of my pregnancy is not in my control is a difficult concept.

I'd love to hear other people's affirmations or positive thoughts.

This might not be at all what you want, but...when I was trying to lose weight after DS was born and I'd start getting discouraged, I'd tell myself, "I'm a lean, mean baby feeding machine!" and that would help me stay on the elliptical a bit longer. Since I started this pregnancy overweight and am worried about gaing ivermuch (but obviously don't want to diet) I've changed it to "I'm a lean, mean babymaking machine!" A litttle corny, but it seems to work for me, both for healthy eating and for exercise.

How about something like, "I trust that this pregnancy will unfold just the way it should." or "Baby, you are so wanted and loved. I am looking forward to meeting you when you are ready."

there was a thread a month or mor ago, either here or on the Nov 2010 DDC called "What if up" that talked about asking positive "What if...?" questions. Like, instead of asking, "What if this nausea never ends?" you ask "What if I get so much energy in the second trimester I'm able to get that remodel done??"

hope this helps.

These are great! I wrote them on a post-it and stuck them in the back of my planner. I'm going to try and look at them instead of google when I start to feel anxious.

It's pretty simple, but for my last three pregnancies whenever the doubts or what ifs would start to creep in I would just repeat to myself "happy, healthy pregnancy; happy, healthy baby; happy, healthy birth" to calm myself down.

Hi! This is a first time experience for me and as a 42 year old who declined the "advanced maternal age" label and refused most testing, I have occassionally needed extra help and reassurance throughout this process (due June 1oth or so). I have been doing the hypnobabies home study course and its been a great resource. The thing I've gotten the most out of is the "Joyful Pregnancy" CD- which is a CD of affirmations repeated- I listen to it a lot of nights as I'm going to sleep, or whenever I feel like I need a boost in confidence and I have had a joyful pregnancy so far. I recommend looking for this CD online or finding an mp3 version to download. Even if you're not interested in using hypnobabies, this stands alone as a great tool for positivity!
