We found out Friday we are having another boy!

I am having a really hard time coming up with a name that we really like as much as we like the name Liam! The middle name will most likely be Samuel, after DH's late brother. We like Biblical or Irish/Celtic sounding names. Nothing too trendy, but nothing too out there either. Liam is now much trendier than I like for a name to be, but I still love it. Any suggestions??

My son's name is Gaelic and we get complimented on it all the time. It's Nolan. Definitely not trendy and not very common (i've only met a few 13 year olds with that name) but still easy to pronounce and recognize

Liam is cute though I have had several Liams in my preschool class.

me, dh and 2 boys = our family (oh and a cat...who is also a male...lol)

My boys are:

Ian (sounds awfully similar to Liam though!)
Connor
Gavin

I have brothers named:

Lochlan (lock-lan)
Keir (keer) [surprisingly Keir never had teasing issues growing up, you'd think that 'Keir the queer' would be too easy, but he doesn't say it ever happened]

Both of them love their unique names!

I love Asher.. will have to ask DH about that. Also love Nolan, but it is on my list of "can't use" because of family/friends using it. Also love the name Ian, that's been one we've tossed around.

Keep them coming!

Brennan is one of my alltime faves.. Liam would have been Brennan had DH allowed, but he does not like that name for some reason.

Just looked on Social Security website, Ian is not as common as I thought it was.. only in the 70's!

Love Kieran too.. DH vetoed.

BUT, I just talked with DH and I think Ian is the THE ONE! It meand "God is merciful" which I love. Also, it is the Scottish version of John, and I have a Scottish background. And Sean is the Irish version of John, and Sean Samuel was DH's brother who passed away that we were using the middle name Samuel after. So, Ian Samuel is just about perfect I think.

Sounds like you found your fit, but I wanted to throw "Kian" into the mix. My daughter has a boy in her class named Kian (and his Dad's name is Kier, a name others have mentioned), and he is the nicest kid so I have good associations with that name. I do love Ian too though!

I second this name. I was set to name this baby Kieran, but it looks like after two boys I am having a girl this time. It is more traditionally spelled Ciaran with a slightly different pronunciation I think. Kieran is the Anglicized version I do believe. It is gaining some popularity, but not quite as much as Liam and Aidan/en have. There are two Nolans in my son's preschool class so that name seems to be getting more popular as well.

Since someone mentioned Gaelic, I'll throw in Galen. It's Greek and means Calm/Tranquil, according to Zelo.

What about Silas?

ETA: oops, didn't see you chose Ian. It's a great name, I would maybe be afraid of getting it mixed up with Liam b/c I do so all the time with my 3 boys, and their names aren't too similar except that they end in N.

I like Lachlan alot. Ian and Liam sound a bit rhyme-y, so thought i'd point that out in case that would be a concern.

Love your choice! I was going to suggest Iain, which is the Gaelic form of John. It's my 2nd son's name. My 3rd son's middle name is Samuel, which I love. Iain/Ian and Liam do sound very similar, but they also go well together as they're clearly a similar heritage.

Sorry, I think they sound way too similar and you are going to be very confused, yelling them across the house, etc.

How about Declan?

DS1 2004 ~ DS2 2005 ~ DD1 2008 ~ DS3 2010 ~ DD2 born at 31 weeks Oct. 2014

oooh, I love Declan. That was on my boy list (but DH vetoed it). It sounds nice with Liam.

We've already decided it will be Ian. Not a big fan of Declan or Lachlan. I do like the name Silas, but we have a good friend whose DS has that name.

I have a Kieran - in retrospect I wish we had spelled it the Gaelic spelling... but we get lots of compliments. It is traditional in Ireland, but not very common here in North America. We're expecting another little one and I have a feeling it'll be a boy too. The name we have picked out so far is Cael.
