Hi there mamas,

I had a Chorionic Villus Sampling screening test this morning and have been ordered strict bedrest for 24 hours and minimal activity for 72 hours total afterwards. It was transcervical and I have had no fluid or blood spotting at all today, no fever, no side effects other than boredom!

I am an active person, 38 years old, and have a flatwater canoe paddling overnight campout planned for Sunday (that's 48 hours after the procedure). I am wondering whether anyone else who has had the test before had any complications that might warrant my being overly cautious to the point of cancelling the trip. It is a straightforward one-hour paddle-out, an overnighter in a tent, and a paddle back the next day. I set the pace. Anyone advise against? Of course I'm just asking for opinions, so please feel free to have your honest say; I am responsible for whatever happens when I make my decision

Thank you so much for any advice!
Stephanie

I am not sure of what to say regarding this. Have you tried posting this is the I'm Pregnant forum?

I had a CVS and read quite a bit about the risks. I've also read quite a bit about bed rest for different situations. Putting that knowledge together, myself, I would feel comfortable saying that if something did happen, it wouldn't be the caneoing that caused it- but I think the real question is to ask yourself if you'd feel the same way if the worst did happen. No bleeding after CVS is a good sign (not that the bleeding is always or even usually a bad sign, but no bleeding means the risk is a bit lower, if that makes sense).

If the advice you were given was to have minimal activity for 72 hours, then i would do that. I can understand the temptation to not follow your doctor's advice, but I personally wouldn't risk it. But then, my entire world was turned upside down by my loss, so I may come from a different perspective than you, and who knows if my response would have been the same six months ago.

I am assuming that you're looking to see if there is anyone on here who had a loss after doing a lot of activity post-CVS, and I can't help you there. But in general, medical advice exists for a reason, even if it's a conservative worst-case-scenario one. I would follow it.

My husband and I are trying to conceive again, while missing our beautiful daughter who was stillborn Jan. 2010

Agreed. I haven't had CVS, but if I did, I would follow my doctor's orders post procedure to the letter.
