This was the worst thing for me during labor. I felt nauseous from the time my contractions started to get serious. I spent the entire labor with my last child in the tub with a bowl floating around because I felt like I was going to throw. I would really like to avoid that this time, or at least have some things to do to combat it if it happens. Anyone have any ideas of things I could while in labor to prevent or treat this?

I'd love to hear some ideas for this. I spent the last couple hours of labor with my son dry heaving with every contraction. That was fun sick.gif

Yeah, it really ruins the moment.

I took a bonine pill before active labor began. I had one contraction that made me feel nauseous but that was it. I also had some candied ginger around.

I think it really helps to nibble on SOMETHING during labor. I had  natural waterbirth last pregnancy, so I of course didn't have to deal with hospital regulations not allowing me to eat but I found it so helpful. I had a little beer, and some saltines (might sound gross to some of you, but hey, it helped me). Salty food like crackers, chips, nuts can really alleviate some of the nausea. I'm giving birth at a hospital this time around (not my choice) and my awesome midwife told me that she secretly lets her patients have food during labor and doesn't give a rip what the hospital thinks- I love her.

Anyway- avoid hunger, or don't go into labor hungry, is my advice!

My last birth was a home waterbirth and I'm planning the same this time. No drugs, thank you. winky.gif I was thinking more in terms of food or drinks. I probably was pretty hungry during my last 2 labors. One was an induction that lasted 12 hours without food. The other went over night and I didn't eat that whole time.

I'll definitely had the old stand by saltines and ginger and peppermint teas. I'm going to talk to my midwife about it when I see her Wednesday.
