I got a BFP yesterday, and because I'm going with an OB practice instead of the FSBC I went to last time ($ issues :( ) and it's a very popular, busy place, I called this morning to find out what comes next, and when I'm supposed to go in, since I'm clueless.  They scheduled me for an appointment with a NP on Monday.  Isn't that really early?  I won't even be 5 weeks yet.

Or is it just to lay the groundwork for when I meet with the OB, do you think?  I know I should have asked but I was flustered and just went with what she was saying.  She didn't ask how far along I was, I just said "I just found out."  I can call back and ask, I suppose, but as I have some kind of phone anxiety I thought I'd see what other people's experiences are.

I dont think its that weird that you have an appointment that early, but I do think its weird that it is with the NP and not the OB. It seems like if they were going to schedule an appointment that early, it would be so that you could get acquainted with the doctor. With my first, I had an appointment at 5 weeks to meet my OB and talk about how their office did things. With my second, I didnt have an appointment until 11 weeks because I already knew the OB and she asked me on the phone if I knew the EDD or if I wanted to come in for an ultrasound. I knew the EDD, so she scheduled me for 11 weeks because she likes to see me once during the first trimester.

FSBC = freestanding birth center. I didn't tell the receptionist I went there but I made sure she knew I was a new patient. I don't mind going but I'm not sure what there is to do besides take another test, get my information, and remind me of the dos/don'ts. I wouldn't consent to an ultrasound, I've had one sex partner my whole life, and I know my blood type because they did that in my last pregnancy. But I guess I'll see.

They will probably just do a history and a pregnancy test to confirm. The first appointment is always imprudent. At least I always thought so. If they try to hear a heartbeat don't be surprised if they don't find it. It would typically be too early to hear it. They may not even try or they will for warn you that they may not. I really don't know how much you will see the doctor. If you request him then they have to let you see him. I went to a NP for all my appointments until I started having complications. At first I didn't like her so I requested only to see him. Note: If you request to see the doctor you may be waiting in the waiting room longer than normal or be rescheduled because they are always leaving and delivering babies. Good luck and Congrats to you and your family!tiphat.gif

Sorry, I thought "FSBC" stands for Fertility something or other.
