My husband and I can't agree on a baby girl's name and I'm due in four weeks. Our sons are named Nolan and Liam; our last name starts with a K. I like Ella and Fiona but fear that Ella is too popular; my husband loves Amelia but I'm sort of lukewarm about it. Any suggestions? I would like to avoid a popular name, but I love the name Ella. Help, please!
You could always do a name that uses Ella as a nickname. Our first is named Eleanor and we call her Ella. I know Isabella's and Gabriella's that are called Ella too.
I didn't vote b/c I love all 3 names, they've been on our short lists for both girls.

The nice thing about popular names is that they will never be misspelled or mispronounced.
I agree about going with what you love. We like Ella too, but will probably call baby girl Annabelle, or Ella for short.
My daughter is Fiona and I've yet to meet another one. I'm a bit partial to that name :) She can't say her name yet so she calls herself Fifi so you might want to take that into consideration. We usually call her Fi.
One of my friends named her daughter Fianna (fi-ah-nah). It is a beautiful name, but I will say the little girl always got upset if people mispronounced it. I guess there's a chance of that with any name though. :)
My dd is Ella. It was my grandmother's name; she passed away a few months before we conceived dd, and it just felt like "the baby's" name even before we were pregnant or found out the sex (which we didn't do until birth). But we met so many baby Ellas, and even a dog called Ella (!), during that pregnancy, that we actually picked a different girl name. We were sure she was a boy, but about a week before she was born we decided that the girl name had to be Ella, so we went back to it. And surprise! She was a she . It's perfect for her now, and I don't mind too much that it's pretty common--it really just suits her, yk? I also think it'll never be as common as my name was growing up (I'm Sarah). So I agree with PPs: go with what you love, and ignore everyone else!

I love all of them, but my DD is Fiona so I'm obviously partial to that. We've not met any other girls named Fiona, and its considerably less popular than Ella or Amelia according to the Social Security website. That said, you should go with the name you love even if a lot of other mamas love the name as well.
Mama to F (3/09) and S (3/11); and never forgetting my babe gone too soon (4/10).
I used to love the Amelia Jane books growing up! I don't know how well known they are here in the US, but you'll have to invest in the series for your dd :)

We actually nixed a girl name with our first child as we thought it was too popular, but ended up using it for our second child, because we just loved it so darned much and decided we didn't care how many other people used it.
BTW, the name in question and our DD2's name - Maia
Certified Crazy™ Wife to my Spiderman husband (Aug '01)
Super proud Momma to DD (Jan'00), DD (Apr '02) and DS (Jun '04)
Always loving and missing our Baby James born sleeping at 19 weeks (July '03).
You could even wring Ella out of Amelia as a nickname if you had a mind to do so, then she can choose whichever one she likes, or Amy, Mel, Lia - lots of options.
Amelia is soo cute sounds like a flower name or something sweet and smooth. But Ella is nice too. Well I voted for Amelia! Wish you all the best

Ella is extremely, eye-rollingly popular in Louisiana right now, but not sure if it's reached that level of insane popularity anywhere else in the U.S. Here, it's pretty much like Madison was a few years ago -- literally a third of the baby girls you hear about being born are named Ella!
