Why would you do that at 38 weeks?

BTDT and if the body is not ready you will do it again.

What is 2 T?

I drank the entire bottle and got nothing the first time, a week later it was pure liquid runs and contractions.

Nothing better than the combination of traveller's diarreaaaaaah and natural childbirth - kinda put the birthing tub out of the question.

This post seems awfully similar to a few others that were going around last week.

Two table spoons with not do anything.  You need to drink a lot like 2 to 4 oz for it to work.  Its not going to do anything if you aren't in early labor and you are not ready.

With my DS my water had been broken for 10 hours and I was in a birthing center with a 24 hour rule, so under my MWs guidance we decided to try castor oil when my labor stalled and I was stuck at 5 cm.  It worked, but I don't think it would have done anything if I wasn't already in labor.

OP, the post quoted above should be seriously considered. Really.

Castor oil is not worth it. Just put the "induction methods" down and do what your body is going to do anyway(go into labor when it is good and ready).

On purpose????  Ack.

I don't really know much about castor oil but I don't think a baby is going to be born unless he or she is ready, and 38 weeks is early.

Sit on the yoga ball, relax and enjoy the last week (s).  It'll be over before you know it.

I would not do it again.

Seriously contractions and the runs are not in anyones ideal happy natural childbirth plan (especially at your own house)

Some partners feel squeemish about cleaning up birth stuff...no need to add to it.  I was also lucky since if there had been any cord issues or water breaking too early etc I could have done damage.  I also could have done damage to myself if it had been a larger baby or my first. (* this was also against my midwife's advice)

Not worth it.  BTDT.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with castor oil, but it will straight up not induce unless you're already on the brink.

Someone i know just did this.  Babe was still in a weird position though, and obviously not yet sorted itself out for labouring.  It started labour ok, but then it was an emergency forceps/flat baby due to the positioning issue.  He survived, though i'd be waiting for the baby to start labour, personally!

i dont think castor oil would even work unless you were further along and you have to take 2-4 oz for it to work. 2 tbs might help you go to the bathroom though.  i took it 40 weeks 3 days (didnt want to be induced at the hospital) with ds2 and i went into labor 5 hours later.  I had a large bm 30 mins after taking it and it felt like taking any other laxative.  bonus is i didnt poop on the table.

I disagree that you would have to take 2-4oz for it to work. Several midwives here recommend a tablespoon with food.

I took it under midwife supervision when I was 42 weeks along (and was ready to try anything to still get my homebirth). I took a whole bottle that was 2 or 4 oz, can't remember.  Never seems to work for people that I know who have tried it before or even just past due date.  I felt bad for about an hour, but it started labor and I had the baby a few hours later. Granted, I'd been having contractions for a few hours every night since 37 weeks, so my body just needed a little extra push, and who knows I might have gone into labor without it anyway pretty soon.
