My midwife suggested that I start taking 2 wild yam capsules each morning and 2 each evening to help prevent miscarriage, and lengthen  my luteal phase when we were ttc.  I have also been using progesterone cream for the same purposes, and plan to use both until about 14 weeks.

Right now I'm 7 weeks pregnant, and am wondering if I stop taking the wild yam, or miss a dose of it, if it could lower my progesterone levels and instigate a miscarriage?  I'm having such bad morning sickness, that I keep taking the capsules, and then choking and throwing them up immediately.  I'm nervous that it could case me to lose the baby.

Anyone have more info on stopping the wild yam, or lowering the amount I'm taking before 14 weeks?  Bad idea/good idea?

Thank you!

I would be more concerned about using the progesterone cream. Wild yam actually doesn't have much of an affect on the body. They are similar, but the body will not convert wild yam into progesterone. So, I wouldn't worry to much about missing or throwing up your pills! Just keep using the progesterone cream and make sure to switch up where you apply it to keep from saturating any area. smile.gif

Hey love...it's Natasha ;)  Are they having you continue the progest cream as well or are you doing that on your own instinct?  Either way is fine by me just wondering.  I just went down from 2 pills twice a day last week to one pill a day and now am doing that for one more week and then I get to stop and I am 18 weeks now.  My morning sickness finally stopped at about 15 weeks or so.  It was nasty.

Ask m&k if you can open the capsules in juice or a smoothie so that you may absorb at least a little of it.  I literally felt like a maniac where every morning and night I wouldn't let myself miss a dosage of the WY, then about three weeks ago I asked them if I could start coming off of them...like my body knew it was ok.

Number one trust your gut...I just *know* this wouldn't have been a sticky babe without the WY... I spotted all the way to 14 weeks.  xoxo Hope you feel better soon love.

Glad to see you on here!  I ended up slowly coming off of them and have to say that it really helped how I'm feeling. Of course, if I lose the baby I'm going to feel pretty crappy about it, but honestly I think I was having some sort of abnormal reaction to the wild yam.  I hope I made the right decision.  I still feel incredibly sick, but at least now I don't feel like I'm dying (which is honestly how I felt)!  I don't think I've ever felt as sick as I did on the WY in my life. :(   K knew I was doing the progesterone cream and when my temps started to drop again half way through my luteal phase when we were ttc she suggested I do the wild yam, so I did.  I think it definitely helped me with ttc, but am hoping that the progesterone cream is doing the job now on its own instead.  With my other kids, I never had any problems in the first trimester, but used the Progesterone cream more for help with ttc and don't want to stop it now and kick my body into shedding the lining of the uterus, and baby!

I can't believe you're already 18 weeks!  Time is flying by so quickly!  I can't remember....are you going to find out if it's a boy or girl?
