I know you're out there, you ladies who love to comment on baby name threads. Since the DDC's are all social groups now, you have all been lurking about with no where for your baby name opinions to go. Well, now it's your turn to help (me, mercilessly begging for ideas). Please help me name twin B! (Both twins are girls).

Here's the scoop:

~DH has a lot of opinions about baby names, but refuses to look for names. He only vetoes mine. This is why I need new ideas.

~I have 6 baby name books and a crapload of name websites bookmarked, none of them are helping me right now.

~We cannot have any names that start with H, X, or Z. (our last name starts with a Z and everyone on my side of the family seems to start with H)

~No names that are associated with tragedy or evil. This rules out Clementine (because of the song) and my favorite, Ophelia (because of the whole suicide thing). This is an issue that DH is not willing to budge on, and I have to respect it.

~No "boy" names, last names as first names, or gender neutral names. We are dealing with some gender disappointment, and we dont want a lot of "oh, it sounds like daddy wanted a boy" or our kiddo growing up thinking that we wanted her to be a boy.

~We like old-timey names, with the first name being kind of rare, and the middle name being pretty normal.

~It's always a plus for us if the first name has a great nickname.

Anyway, I know that's kind of a lot of limitations, and Im totally out of ideas, so help me out!

Here are our current names:

DD:       Adaline Sarah- "Ada"

Baby A: Calliope Mae- "Callie"   (also, Poppy is apparently a common nickname for Calliope in Greece. My dad is Poppy, so that is pretty unlikely, but I like it)

Current Baby B ideas: Evelyn, Olivia, Lucinda, Natalya, Lydia, Elise, Alice. (DH just hasnt vetoed these yet.)

Oh, and also:

I don't really care if the twin's names "go" together, but they can't be silly- like we can't do "Callie and Hallie: or "Calliope and Penelope."

Just in case one baby turns out to be a boy, those names are already picked out, so we will have boy backups.

I know we have plenty of time, but no name has ever just "come to us" for our kids besides Adaline (and that came when I was about 10 weeks pregnant). We need to pick a couple of good ones and live with them for awhile.

Thanks so much ladies! I look forward to hearing all of your expert baby naming ideas!

I really like Matilda, Beatrix and Eliza.

We have discussed using Elizabeth as a middle name. It's really funny that I have SIX great aunts on that list :) Southern old lady names!

I LOVE the name Beatrix.  If I didn't have a friend who had a Beatrix before I was pregnant with DD, that likely would have been DD's name.

I also love the name Mabel.

I am a fan of Beatrix also, Bea for short, cute!

Cora is an older name and kinda goes with Callie. I also have been interested in Laurel/Lauryl, however you spell it. I think that is an older name but it is one that you either love or hate. My daughter is Clara and we get a lot of positive responses when people hear her name.

Evangeline

It was my grandmother's middle name, I'm thinking of using it as a middle name if we have a girl this time. Since everyone likes Beatrice, my DD has a best friend Beatrice, her sister's name is Audrey. I think the two names gel together well :)

Thalia... a sister muse to Calliope in the ancient mythology.

Daphne and Theodora also "match" to me with the Greco-Roman goddess vibe.

I grew up with a Laurel and have always been surprised that it never became more popular.  It's such a lovely option to Laura and Lauren, with its own meaning.

Don't know if the tragedy thing vetoes it but how about Cassandra? Might be too matchy with Calliope ... Callie and Cassie... Or Callie and Sandy :-)
A name I love but had to drop was Miranda and another one was Bianca.
I also love Lydia.... DD said "liddyliddyliddy" a lot while babbling around her first birthday. DH and I laughed saying if only we named her Lydia she could have been saying her own name lol.
All this name talk is making me want to get pregnant again lol

I like Thalia and Beatrix (well, actually I am not in love with Beatrix, but I do think it goes with Callie and Adalaine, and Bea is cute!)

If you want an homage to Elizabeth, you could go with Bethany.

Hi Adaline'sMama- thanks for asking us to weigh in on names for your new LO.  I agree on not liking matching names.  I have a Juniper, so I obviously like that name.  Calliope was also high on my list with both girls- I love it.  I think you should go with a longer name with a good nickname because of your other girls. Beatrix/Beatrice is great.  On your list, I really like Elise; it was my great-grandmother's name and Ellie is a nice nickname.  I also like Evelyn and Lydia.

There are lots of awesome suggestions here!  I can't think of more that would be better.  However, a word of caution when naming twins:  when you take them to the dr or the dentist or any place that you have to write their names down, having two babies with long-ish names can be very tedious.   We named out girls Gabrielle Grace and Jillian Rose.  I absolutely adore their names, but it can be a bit tiresome when filling out forms.  You can't go with nicknames cuz you have to write their legal names.  Small consideration, but something I didn't really think about and may be important to someone.  Sometimes I wish we named them Amy and Mya like I wanted!  lol

Thessaly (region of Greece) (you could call her Tess)

Thalia (favorite college professor who was from Greece) (you could call her Lia)

less relevant but I think they work:

Rosaline

Marisol

Juniper

Opal

Ida (you could have a complicated middle name to go with it)

Hey, glad to read this thread and I hope you're feeling great!

Did I misread you to say you wanted Greek names?  I think I did.  Sorry!  Now you know why the first two are so Greek-ish.  I still like the other names on my list, but here is the one I think is best.

Marisol.  Calliope and Marisol.  It has a meaning associated with the sun.

D

edited to say: why did I include Ida?  Duh, that would never work w/ Ada.  I'm just off tonight (Ida is my favorite name though, so I hope somebody uses it someday (did not work w/ my last name for my own daughter))

I think with one long name you'd be better going with a short name.  How about Thea?  Thea and Calliope sounds nice.

Thanks for all your ideas and opinions! We probably will use a longer name name, since both the other girls have multi syllable names, but Im totally into using a long name that has a short nickname.

I like Beatrix, but DH vetoed it. :( He doesnt want to have A (Adaline) B (Beatrix) and C (Calliope)

He likes Evelyn and Alice from the list I posted earlier :)

Philomom, we went through all the muses and couldnt find one that we could agree on.

We cant use Ida, Iva, or Ava considering that we call DD Ada most of the time.

Im Holly, with sisters Hayley and Heather and sister in law Krystina, so those are pretty much all out.

I do like Jocelyn, Matilda, Elisa, and Lauryl.

Anymore ideas are always welcome!!!
