I am five weeks pregnant and am very careful about chemicals, toxins, etc. I ran into a tire shop today for what I thought was going to be a couple minutes and it turned out to be more like twenty. The smell of rubber was quite strong and now I am worried that I may have caused our baby harm. Does anyone know if exposure to that smell is harmful to baby?
twenty minutes is not very long and i think the smell of rubber is not toxic. i feel confident that you and your baby are okay. it's good to be a concerned mama though. i am bumping our thread in case anyone else has any thoughts.
Thanks so much for your reply! My husband thought I was crazy for being so worried! (First-time mom!) I called the Motherisk line and they said it was considered "acute exposure" and that it should be fine. So I feel a bit better.
The way I figure, it's probably less toxic in a tire shop than in your average department store/mall/detergent aisle in the grocery store where there's tons of different chemicals flying around everywhere from all the perfumes and cleaning products mingling.
