I have no experience with my water breaking on its own- I had my sac broken during labour with DS and I don't even remember what that felt like.

Last night, I woke up from a dream after feeling a strong kick/movement and there was water all over me and the bed. I stood up and went to the bathroom, sat down on the toilet and a big gush came out. I was still half asleep so I don't remember if it felt like I was peeing. I did think to myself at the time "WOW I never have that much pee!"- these days it's always a small trickle- there's just no space for my bladder to hold much more. And then after I turned on the light to look in the toilet and it was clear- usually my pee at night is pretty yellow since I take my vitamins with a snack before bed. I didn't see any mucous plug or anything.

That was at at about 4 am and it's 7 now. I haven't felt any contractions or had any leaking. But I do feel like I am so much more comfortable and not stretched to my limit so much- I feel really different.

I thought that waters don't usually break when lying down. Also thought that contractions would start soon after if the waters did in fact break.

I have never peed on myself before, but I know these things can happen.

What should I look out for to confirm my water did or did not break???

TIA!!!

Do you have a midwife you can call?

Are you continuing to leak fluid?

Not leaking as far as I can tell.

My midwives are in a large clinic. If I call the clinic they'll tell me to come in. Is it necessary to get checked? I'd rather wait but I'm not sure how long before I should do *something*.

Still nothing going on. Maybe it was pee? It just doesn't make sense.

Yes, water can break lying down, it can break 24 hours or more before labor starts, and the baby's head can plug the leak (meaning you wouldn't feel a continuing trickle). I'd definitely ring your midwives and get checked, especially since your belly feels different. But if your water did break and labor hasn't started yet, I'd ask a lot of questions before I let anyone do an internal exam, as you really don't want an infection.

My water broke with DS pretty much exactly as you described.  I woke up from a deep sleep feeling two or three "twinges" (can't really describe it) and felt like I needed to pee.  Hobbled down the hallway...a couple of gushes happened before I got to the toilet.  It was definitely amniotic fluid (clear and odorless), not urine.  I went back to sleep and contractions didn't start for several hours.

Sounds like you should be in labor by now!

My water broke at 8 PM at night (with no warning whatsoever) and I didn't even have the tiniest contraction until well into the next morning, so they don't always start right away.  Of course, by then we were trying our darndest to get them going stronger to keep things moving by hauling out the breast pump and walking, but by noon I started what I would have considered full-on labor.

Hope things are clearer for you by now and that you're meeting your baby soon!

Nope not in labour yet. Baby feels sooo low, I think if I stick my finger in I would feel her at the second knuckle!

It's been 26 hrs since the water/pee incident so I'm going in today. I feel fine, baby is moving as usual so I'm not worried.

Thanks for the advice!
