Ours is coming up in a couple of weeks. We didn't have it last time, but now I am the dreaded AMA (35--send me out to pasture, please! ha).

What was it like? Is it a vaginal ultrasound? Just wondering what others' experiences have been.

Our nuchal scan was not vaginal, it was our first external u/s. They take a bunch of measurements and may ask you to change positions/roll to one side or another to get the best views. It's not too lengthy, maybe 20 minutes, and we got to take some pictures home. After the u/s they pricked my finger for a small blood sample. We got our results in a few business days after. Pretty simple.

My wife (30) and I (32) have been legally married since 2006. We are proud queer mamas to baby W, born 10/10/2013.

I had one with my first 2.  It's just an abdominal u/s - no biggie.  This time we skipped it, because there's a new test called MaterniT21 - supposed to be 99.5% accurate for 3 diff trisomies and you get to find out the sex of the baby.  It's just a blood draw from Mom, so not invasive either.
