Sooooo....I'm about 8 weeks pregnant and just found out it's twins!!! I have a five and seven year old now...plus I work full-time. I have been so incredibly sick with this pregnancy. I vomit about ten times a day and have become dehydrated. I broke down and got a prescription for zofran because I feel so pathetic.I'm having some guilt about taking the medicine but nothing is helping. I have to go to a Perinatologist at 12 weeks due to a miscarriage at 11 weeks (tissue came back as a chromosome disorder incompatible with life) and the fact that my son had Single Umbilical Artery and mild hypotonia (totally normal five year old). My daughter had no issues.

Between the severe morning sickness, going to the perinatologist, and now worrying about two babies, I'm feeling overwhelmed. I am still very excited about having twins but nervous at the same time....I'm praying for two healthy babies. :heartbeat

I am 8 weeks pregnant with twins, too. I have my next scan tomorrow to make sure that they are both ok. I am too nervous to post much now, but I will post more (hopefully) after my appointment tomorrow!

I am hoping it gets better for both of you as you progress through your pregnancy. I am almost 38 weeks pregnant with twins. I attribute my "boring normal" twin pregnancy to healthy eating, lots of water, lots of protein, and as much rest as I could get while still working.  I totally suggest the book "When you're expecting twins triplets or quads" by Barbara Luke that focuses on preventative measures to help your pregnancy last as long as possible to help those babies grow.

Well, doing those things doesn't make hypermesis go away. I wish that healthy eating and such could make this more normal.

My scan went great! 2 little gummibears, hearts beating away, and we even saw one hand/flipper move at only 8w5. The doctor said that everything looks perfect!

I have been having morning sickness for over 4 weeks now. Not much actual vomiting, but debilitating exhaustion and constant nausea. The nausea hasn't let up much, but now I am able to eat despite the nausea, and feel much better.

AshleynJacy, no it doesn't make hyperemesis go away, but the book does recommend some strategies to help your babies grow as much as possible even when you are plagued with over active vomiting.

bremen, I am excited that you got to see your little gummy bears yesterday.  It is amazing isn't it!

AFM, I thought I was going to have my babies yesterday - contractions 3 to 5 minutes apart and pretty intense. I was supposed to have a prenatal appointment at 2:10 p.m. but that ob was sick so I had to come in the morning to see the on call doctor. I was one cm dilated and that doctor was like "I want you to go over to L and D to be monitored." Why, I am only at 1 cm? "well your blood pressure was high and I want to make sure it doesn't stay like that."

I have never had a high blood pressure reading, never had protein in my urine (sign of preclampsia), etc.  I sat for 3 hours in triage looked up to a blood pressure cuff and baby heart monitors and all my contractions stopped.  Most uncomfortable bed to sit on, since they were trying to take my blood pressure I couldn't get up and move around.  Finally blood work came back negative for all the things they were "worried" about and I came home.  Haven't started having the intense contractions again yet.  :( I want to see my babies!

I started making shakes...protein...nuts, fruits, vegetables, and some vegan protein powder....

I'm really trying but I feel so depressed being this sick. I'm a full time teacher, and it's really taking its toll on me.... gloomy.gif

AshleynJacy, at 8 weeks, last spring for me, as a full time teacher, I knew I had to do something different this school year. Probably not as possible for you to change things up right now, but I know the change I made to be a teacher consultant rather than a full time up front teacher made all the difference. Do you teach elementary or high school? How much rest can you take throughout the day? Even a few minutes of putting your feet up made it doable for me the last 12 weeks of full time teaching that I did once I found out I was pregnant. I was a high school math teacher and school guidance counselor. I did so many things at the small school where I taught. Keeping up with the pace that I once did got less and less possible as the end of the school year came. I hope you can find a good balance between working and rest to keep your twins on the inside as long as possible.

Haha, I'm a middle school teacher in a smallish private school. I don't want to lose my job as my children LOVE the school. The school is also willing to work with me for next year...they are allowing me to work part time for the whole year. So basically, I'm just really, really trying to tough this out. I'm hoping to feel better after the break.........REALLY HOPING!

That sounds like a great deal. I hope you can get through the year.

I am kind of wondering how the end of this pregnancy is going to go....school year ends in June. I am technically due July 16...my other two children were both born two weeks early (went into labor naturally). How much earlier will twins come?!

I think it all depends on your diet, stress, and millions of other factors about when twins come. Obviously for me, I am at 38 weeks 6 days. I don't think "early" is in my babies vocabulary. Still no major contractions.

William Ernest arrived at 4:13 pm Sat. Dec 21 at 7 pounds 10 oz. Edward Ronald arrived in breech presentation at 4:15 pm Dec 21 at 6 pounds 2 oz. I did pitocin induction from 7:30 am Friday Dec 20 because both boys were head down then until 2:30 pm Sat Dec 21 where even though water was broken for first baby, I never prrogressed past 5 cm. Had spinal and c section.

Stayed in hospital until Dec 25 because of low blood sugar issues with Edward. So happy to be tandem nursing on demand at home now! These babies were 40 weeks 2 days when they were born.

Never having nursed one baby, I can't compare. Nursing awaz from home will be sort of crazy though because there is no way to be discrete and my nursing pillow is huge to support them while they eat. I nursed without it at the doctor's office and my arms got really tired supporting their heads.

You'll be a pro in no time :thumb

Nursing one was a little challenging at first but then you got the hang of it and it's cake. Looking back, nursing was my most favorite part of having babies...the endorphins, the bonding, the quiet. :love

Nursing is going well. Swaddling them at night keeps them warmer after nursing so they stay asleep away from me. Just need a carrier or wrap for day time closeness with some use of my hands.
