Hi Ladies,

I'm 25w1d pregnant with my first baby, and my cervix feels very soft and short--probably like 1cm.  (Got used to checking it during Natural Family Planning) I've been reading that it should be like 3cm, so I'm feeling nervous.

How is this measurement taken?  I'm assuming it's the length that the cervix sticks out from the uterus--as if you'd put a ruler against the uterus and then see how far the cervix comes down.  If this is the case, I believe mine is short.

How worried should I be?  I don't have any of the incompetent cervix risk factors or any strange symptoms.  So far this pregnancy has been absolutely complication free.  I have not yet had an ultrasound--I understand that's how incompetent cervix is detected.

Any input is very much appreciated!

I had cervical issues with my last. Not sure what you are feeling. Mine was only picked up by u/s. I was dilating from the inside of my uterus down. So my cervix was closed and normal looking from the vagina side but was funneling open from the inside down
