I think I have a sinus infection, Ive been so full of mucus and every sinus spot hurts, mostly my jaw, ears, and cheeks. Is it worth going to a Dr? I mean can you take anything OTC or if it's a full blown infection can you have antibiotics while pregnant? I really don't like taking anything. Any natural decongestants? I've been using the neti pot thing but it doesn't help with the sinus pain and pressure. Would love any advice! I am so miserable

Hi Rosie! You should get evaluated by your doctor, but just generally, yes there ARE over the counter meds that are ok in pregnancy, and if you have a bacterial infection of any sort, including sinus, there are definitely lots of antibiotics that are prescribed for pregnant women. Sinus infections are almost always viral but again, call your providers office and see what they say. I hope you feel better soon. Have you tried steam?

Did they give you a short list of safe OTC things to take?

Tylenol and Vicks was pretty much it. All decongestants are a no as it compromises blood flow to baby

I had some sinus pain last week (probably not as bad as yours!) but I found standing with the hot shower on my face helped

How far along are you? I had terrible, debilitating sinus pain from about 7 weeks to 20 weeks in my pregnancy and tried everything natural or homeopathic. I eventually took one half does of Sudafed at 21 weeks and it completely knocked out whatever was irritating my sinuses and I haven't have any problems again. Talk to a pharmacist (or care provider) before you do consider taking it, though. It isn't something I would normally consider during pregnancy, but I am so glad I chose to do it at that point. I was miserable. Hope you feel better soon!
