I am 14 weeks today and went in for my midwife appointment and she couldn't find the heartbeat. She looked for like 5 minutes. I am panicking. We have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow (since today is the Memorial Day). I have 3 older boys and we heard all their heartbeats between 14 and 15 weeks. We have also had 3 losses- one at 16 weeks. We saw this baby on ultrasound at 8 weeks and 3 days and all looked good. Anyone have experience with this?
No experience with that really, but I have had trouble finding it at times. Sometimes baby is in a bad position. Best of luck to you. I hope everything goes well at your ultrasound today. *hugs*
Midwifes where I live are advised to not look for heartbeats before 16 weeks for this reason, that some children are very hard to find and thus this only causes anxiety for the parents to hear that they cannot find a heartbeat. I was very worried around this time myself and mine look for this anyway and found it but she was very clear in saying that this is a gamble, if I do not find it, it means nothing but if I do find it, it is a confirmation for you of there at least being a heartbeat.
I'm concerned that the midwife didn't say that was a possibility. But she may not have realized that you didn't know since you've had more kids. Here's hoping for a reassuring ultrasound and a more cooperative baby at your next midwife appointment!
